Was a little surprised by reading this, if the guys put a lot of effort into the film, then I would certainly take a peek at it...

... however Games Workshop have cracked down and told 'Ze German' its against Copyrigh laws for his Fan Film to be shown

well its not suprising, according to the german law they CANT give up the rights to it, that GW need ,otherwise GW are giving up 40k Intellectual property. its a no-brainer.
but even if that wasnt the case i wouldnt have been suprised - GW IP Lawyers are known for their vigilance ;)

games workshop could buy the film off the bloke who made it or buy his company, that would protect the IP rights.

possibly but then what other use would they have for the person.... it would surely be a hire and fire :(

still, I understand the reasons behind GW doing this, but its good press coverage for them if they tried to buy the film.

Yeah exactly right, it's not that GW are cracking down, it's that if they allow the guy the rights they give up their ownership of the rights, and the guy isn't allowed to sign over the movie to GW due to authorship laws. German law at fault here really, not GW...or the creator :)
