Me and my mate where actually arguing over this.

A motorbike and a car in a say 20 mile stretch on the motorway without speed limits etc, in terrential rain, really pissing it down, side ways hit you in the face rain.

Who would win?

Definatly a car, imo.

Any car around a 1.2 litre will do 80 mph no problemo. Easy as pie.

A motorbike would reach that speed much quicker than a car, but in the rain 4 wheels are better than two.

Say a motorbike was doing 100 mph, then car then hits 100 mph, i'd sooner be sat in the car.

Am i right or am i right.

The one with the bigger engine and faster speed. Too many variables.

There is a good chance that the motorbike - at 100mph, in heavy raind and wind from the side - will never arrive.

Including the variables then. More of a chance the car winning to the bike winning. Even if it's 60/40 i still won.

It turned from a debate to an arguement!

Including what variables? What bike is it, what car is it? What's the condition of the road? What direction(s) is the wind, how fast is the wind?

You are both right.

How experienced a biker?
What tires are being used?
Are there Badgers?
Did the biker eat a full meal before the race?
Did the Car driver drink a bottle of whiskey beforehand?
Has the Biker got a prosthetic arm?
Who the hell decided to race in those conditions?
Is it night?
Why can't I find Mountain dew in any of the shops near me?
Who killed Dr Black?
How many cats eye's are there on the road?
Who the hell put real cats eye's on the road?
Why did I drink far too much Desperados last weekend and tell a friend of mine that his newborn daughter reminded me of the baby in braindead?
What manner of faggotry is going on here?
Where am I?
Wait, what?

I'm more right though, right?

Let's say a fiat punto 1.2 active 8 valve and a 125 2 wheeled motorbike.

The M6, average motorway conditions. Pissing it down, windy as fuck.

Higher chances of the car winning, as the punto can get to 80/90 mph - Motorbike could reach it but the chances of falling off are near enough definate. Which means i win!

The thing is, you can´t really express this with probabilities or chances. All you can say it: it´s safer to drive a car in a rainy storm than a motorbike. The rest is a matter of how much risk the driver is willing to take. It´s impossible to calculate.

I reckon on my 600 CBR, I could take most road cars of equivelant price(£2-3k), even in the pouring rain - particularly if there's traffic.

That said, there are probs a few cars out there for that kinda money with a half decent top end who could get the edge after a couple of miles, but I'd wager not all that many :)

Like Fuzzy implies though, so much depends on the variables that it becomes a little bit difficult to say for any certainty one way or the other.

Yeh i understand all that.

Ok i'll put it simpler.

If you had £100 to bet on which one, who would you bet. Any easier?

I'd argue against that, 80 on a bike isn't so bad on a motorway, even in shitty weather.

Most of the whole "Bikes in bad weather" stuff comes from people trying to do twisty roads or trying to filter too aggressively. If you're just going in a straight line you shouldnt really find it all that bad, depending on the bike :)

Why man. 80 is nothing these days even for my punto.

I went to cheetham hill the other day. 80 was a breeze!

YouTube - Bike race @ 95 km/h IN THE RAIN - Red Bull Road Rage

Around one minute.

If those guys ride downhill slopey slopes in rain, i bet a good enough driver can use a motorbike as usual in rain.

Both car and bike driver need to slow down, but if it's a race, bike will win due to acceleration and speed.

Once you hit that 100+, the wind won't suddenly flip your tits.

Or how about this;

YouTube- Brithish Moto GP Clips

Also there's the fact that the more speed, the more the rain turns towards you and less sideway rain effected. Think there's even a speed of "ground zero" style rain.

Anyway, facts;

Which is faster? Bike.
Is this a race? Yes.
Race equals some sort of skill? Yes.
Skilled driver vs skilled driver = equal drivers.
Which is faster? Bike :p

Having seen bikers lose the back end completely in the wet I say....

You can do the same in a Caterham 7 (even pulling away in the wet is great for 360+ 's).

If the weather is that bad then aqua planning may be an issue and then I'd rather be in the car but otherwise I'll agree with Toh.

Though anyone driving a Punto or riding a 125 should automatically be shot and I drive a Chav mobile for the love of god.
