Ok, I was bored and was thinking whats everyones favourite computer game, but someones already thought of that... :)

Soooooo.....

If you had a time machine and it could take you to some time in the past (NOT Future) were would you go?, and what would you do?

Hmm... I've thought about this before. I would take a Land Rover back to medieval England and demand to speak to the King. I would become the talk of the court with by ability to cross the landscape at incredible speeds. Until the fuel ran out, at which point I would probably be executed, or something.

Id go back to when I was 14, and Heidi Jacklin intimated to me that a shag would be a good thing to try (Im sure she did), and instead of bottling it, Id give her it with both barrells. (or balls):(

I'd go back and kill the inventor of the time machine and then see what happens.

Ahh, well there you're entering theoretical physics territory: Temporal Strings.

Basically if you go back in time and change something, the timeline you occupy at that point in time splits at the point of change, with your original timeline going on as per normal with the timeline you're in at the point of change diverting slightly from the original.

The more changes are made the more branches appear.

I'd probably go back to 1984 and decide not to take smack for the first time.
Or maybe i wouldn't.

I'd go back to the court of King Henry V, and continually wind him up about how Olivier played his part better ..

... AND I'd get to beat up some frenchmen

Back to the Future 2 anyone? ;)

Also, if you did go back in time, would you be you or would their be two you's, you being the older one and the other you being the younger you? And if there were two you's, what would happen when you met up? BUT, if there were 2 you's, wouldn't the older you (which is you) remember meeting an older you when you were young, and then you turn in to the older you?

Just a thought.

Yes there would be 2 "you's".

No you wouldn't remember the meeting (or rather suddenly have the memory inserted into your brain), because the older "you" is a different version from that which the younger you would eventually become.

Temporal anomolies/paradoxes are a doddle for me. Nearly everyone else seems to have huge trouble with them, even with something as simple as the ending of the remake of Planet of the Apes. :)

ah but you can't kill yourself and vanish aiiii
because your future self is, your past self must be, and can not be undone imo

I would go back in time to the point just before I go back in time and prevent myself from doing it, therefore making the original journey non-existent.

To go back in time wouldn't you have to become anti-matter ?

Anti-matter == normal matter going the other way in time.

In which case you'd never survive the journey cos you'd run into regular matter. I could draw you a Feynman diagram if that would help ?

Sar, you fool! The reason you grasp it so easily is because you made it up.

X, Y, and Z are rectangular Cartesian coordinates, the distance between two points in three dimensional space is given by D2 = X2 + Y2 + Z2. This is the Pythagorean Theorem of Geometry expressed in three dimensions. If time is just another dimension would not the distance between two points in space-time be given by D2 = X2 + Y2 + Z2 + T2 ? No, for one thing the equation is dimensionally inconsistent and thus cannot represent an equality. D, X, Y, and Z all have the dimension of distance whereas T has the dimension of time. You can't add apples and oranges and get only apples.

Albert Einstein instead proposed D2 = X2 + Y2 + Z2 - C2T2 , where C is the speed of light. This equation is dimensionally consistent. C has the dimension of distance divided by time (meters per second) whereas T has the dimension of time. Multiplying the two together, the dimension of time in the denominator is cancelled so that the product CT has the dimension of distance only. Since all terms of the equation have the same dimension (distance squared) it is dimensionally balanced. Why the negative sign? It implies that distance can compensate for the passage of time. If an astronomer observes the explosion of a star, the explosion may have happened millions of years ago, but for him it is happening today. This merely is Einstein's commentary on the concept of time as a fourth dimension, a concept which did not originate with him.

Another argument comes from University of Cambridge physics professor Steven Hawking. If science eventually will solve the problem of time travel, then at some time in the future it will do so, and we should expect to see visitors from that era in our own time, but we do not. Or do we? OR DO WE?

Easy.

Wahlberg went back through the timestorm, and re-entered the planet of the apes in an alternate timeline where he hadn't been around to put a stop to Thades rise to power, hence why Thade has been deified and humans no longer exist as he wiped them out when he lived. The apes have since progressed to a point in their evolution similar to that of modern day Earth, with cars, planes etc.
