A Full Bow Ranger? Is it Possible?

Lo peeps,

I could pretend to be Legolas. with all his skills etc but I ain't. Is a full bow spec possible? (with a bb ofc).

I see very little on here suggesting it's fun, but I want to try it anyway (roleplay ftw - since when were elves any good in melee combat in roleplay circles, let's be honest).

I have no problem with being spanked many times in combat, I just want to see if it's worth a try. In which case, what should be my spec (beyond 50 bow)? And I have temp ideas too, so if you fancy posting them plz do.

sure it's possible. It's usually called a sniper spec. So it's 50 Recurve, high stealth so you aren't discovered all the time when you sneak around, since you have a bb i would say low pathfinding (15 or 16) and the rest of your points in pierce/blades and CD.

For temp spec i think a would be a normal ranger set since most ranger try to cap all their skills atleast

Im leveling a melee ranger now but i keep the sniper becouse hes uber fun.

I find full sniper spec is lacking compared to other classes out there. If you compare a ranger to a scout, sniper works great on a scout because they can slam then crit shot. Where as a ranger has CD, so it works better to be melee specced for combat.

If your going for visibles it will work fine, but for stealth vs stealth you will struggle.

You should aim for MoS 3+
I would probably aim for FE/Aug dex with FE 1 higher than the aug dex.
Purge is a must really, at least if your RR5+
Both PD and IP is for close up fights and if your aiming for a full term sniper spec I don't see a reason why you should spend all these points into melee when you could use them for other purposes.
I've tried trueshot, complete waste of RA points imo. With 50 bow and 10% range you'll drop your target 19/20 times if he tries to run, and is so low on hp a single trueshot could kill him.

Oh and btw it's well possible to make a full bow ranger =) that's what they are for

I am, and have always been specced 50 bow (max bow for my level since release).

Think my spec is 50 bow, 40 path, 20 blades, 36 Stealth and 12 CD (?).

Yes, I am aware of the Wyrrd testing, I just like the spec

I play 50 bow, 21 pf, 35+ stealth, rest pierce leftovers in CD.

Couldnt melee a waterbeetle tbh, but 50 bow with dmg add and luri overcaped dex is good for a laugh.

Will consider lowering bow and getting a decent melee spec when I hit rr5, but till then trying to win melee fights as a brehon ranger seemes an ambitious thing todo

I find the higher speed boost has saved my ass many times, tbh I value that more than anything else in the PF line.

Just an opinion.

so almost every fight u purge your str con, and hit with full damage vs your enemy, and as 90% of all assasins only spam garrote, they wont use a backupweap to re- str/con debuff you

been sniper spec 50 +17 for a while now

have at times tried very many ras combos, dex 5 and the like, with 434 dex and 50 + bow you will hit like a truck, TS3 is a laugh a minute, knocking casters off at clip range,

my current spec is 50 + 17 bow, 33 stealth, 27 pf, 34 pierce, 18 CD

just dinged RR7 L1 and I'm not going to spec to a hybrid spec or anything full bow is the way I enjoy my ranger.

I'll post some damage shots below, a bit cheesy I know, but hey why not, these were done mostly using the sun bow (summoned from the sun belt) best bow in game thats available ofc in my opinion (astral probably being the best).

I've not taken any screenshots recently, not even 100% of my max crit but its over 1215dmg

My bow weapon skill at 50 +17 with 434 d3ex using braggarts bow is 2267, drops to about 2241 for all over bows, (lots of swop in/out items when twr huggin).

ofc this char cant melee for shite, but its not meant too, I play from South Australia and the packet loss I get means I cant anyway.

At RR5 as a Sniper SPec i had mos4 FE4 Aug Dex3 and Trueshot.

I have always found high mos stops me getting PA's and alows me to get atleast 2 rf shots on stlthrs. Then if it looks like im going to lose I use my best freind the Desperate Bowman hit PF speed disapear. Then when 15 sec has gone (timer on attacks) Find him and shoot 2-3 more times and they usaully dead.

Spec 50+16 Bow stealth 27+16 (mos 4 ) p25 18cd PF 40.

Worked well for me for 3 since my ranger dinged 50 (which took me for ever lol) but have at rr6.9 respecced to

35 BOW stealth 32 P35 CD 29 PF 40 which i am really enjoying.

Of course I dont have a BB which means High PF but if I did I would have kept my bow at a high Level

THe best way to play a ranger is your own way and find a balance on survive-ability as well as fun.

I was 46pf (9'4dps dmg add), 11 blades (side snare style, piercing side snare needs to spec too high, 21), 50 bow, 8CD (back snare style) and 34 stealth.
That was at NF release, there were too much alb fg stealth groups everywhere so I changed from pure melee to pure shoot & run spec and can say it was very fun.
46 pf does a lot, when u shoot using rapid fire mode you shoot at 1/2 draw time, hit for 1/2 dmg but your dmg add stays, that's like a 18'8 dps dmg add.
11 blades & 8 CD is all you need at melee, strafe and run thro like a hunter chaining glowing blade/snow shower, it gives you 10+secs snared enemy, enough to run face and kill it (never ever shield dmg buffs!! or reactive poisons).
I was sojo (2min FZ) but now I would pick battlermaster for sure CB+purge 3 allows you to use grapple in a offensive way 4 times/15 minuts and up to 2 times at the same combat.
About RA, you need MoS 5, IP is not a great deal as a crap melee fighter, you need to go around your stealthed target waiting for the moment to crit him (you can't crit stealthed targets in movement) and they can't see you or it's game over. Then would pick up to purge 3 to use grapple in a offensive/defensive way.
I know this specs looks like suicide but it works and is very very fun.

Was 50 bow and something else for the rest since SI up until NF. At NF I respecced to hybrid and totally lost interest in playing ranger (because of spec and the fact that I couldn't find the energy to properly put her in a template and get ml's done) - always enjoyed 50bow spec, had shedloads of fun in OF with Puk volleying mpkE, or dual shooting afk'ers with TS. Ranger is still rr4L9, and back when I played sniper spec I used to crit for about 1k-1.1k dmg with a crafted spd5.5 bow.

Oh and about template, I think you'll really want to have +11 rb in it, and +11 stealth as well, unless you're capped at 50 (or is it 51?) stealth with just +9.. other than that it looks pretty good if you plan on being sniper spec.

So clearly the stealth +11 is a deffo, as would be recurve +11 I spose. I'm still not sure if leaving pierce at 35 and increasing cd might be worth it.

the downside is that u have to get BF and the low hp ofc , no cd
