I still find it unfathomable that he was able to kill (or is it still alleged) 215+ people, without anyone having the slightest inkling of what was going on.

I mean, after 5 or so unexplained deaths you have to wonder why there weren't questions raised about his practices, but 215?

Yeah, it's a little odd. Most of his victims were old(er) people, OAP's and such. The death of people of that age can go by relatively unnoticed. That said, a couple of his victims were no older than 40...

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but consider that in practice, you don't really question anyone's death unless someone asks you too. The police are not called in on every death, quite often when a person dies in unsuspicious circumstances it would be another authority who calls in the police.

That "other authority" in this case was the killer himself.

Shipman took great pains to avoid anyone else becoming involved, if a relative raised concerns about the death they would have confided in Shipman first, therefore any doubts were quickly quashed.

If there were 5 unexplained deaths in Shipmans care, who was investigating them - Shipman himself ! None of the relatives would have had any idea about the other four deaths and they could have easily been satisfied by Shipman.

The horrific situation here is that a person that people would normally put great confidence in, has cruelly and maliciously abused that confidence. Medical people normally swear an oath to preserve life under whatever circumstances, which Shipman would have done too, you just simply do not expect a Doctor to go around murdering people.

They were old, so I doubt anyone cared. Do *you* care when old people die? Exactly. I couldn't give a shit. They only caught him because he altered his last victim's will, otherwise he could have gone on culling the OAP population for years. With my full endorsement and support, tbh.
