note: All cards mentioned are AGP

I ordered a 6800gs but cancelled it after finding out that the 7800gs would only(?!) be £40 more.

Sounds like a no brainer answer I guess with the 7800gs being daddy over the 6800gs, there's just a couple of niggling points that might tip me from the 6800 up to the 7800.

I have a barton 2500+ (which will o/c to 3200 no less). Would it actually be worth taking the 7800gs over the 6800gs or would the bottleneck be somethign that makes the former a bit (more) overkill.

And the big one (har). The case is a shuttle SN45Gv3, which is reported to fit a 6800GT so I made the assumption that it would also fit the GS. Although I don't know the physical size difference between the 7800 and the 6800, both cards have single slot cooling mojo so that shouldn't be a problem (hopefully) it just the dimensions i'm not clued up on. Does anyone have experience with these cards in shuttle case, maybe my googling has gone to shit of late but pretty much all the terms I searched threw out nowt of use.

bah :(

Bloody rambling posts.

Anyhow, nutshell, would a 7800GS agp fit in a shuttle (SN45Gv3) and would it be worth choosing over a 6800GS bearing in mind the system is an athlon 2500 (o/c to 3200) with 1GB PC3200 ram.

how much are they now ..

You used to be able to buy a 7800GT and mobo cpu combo for the price of a 7800GS a little while ago

Dont think the 7800GS has much of a performance peak over the 6800GS.

Try looking at http://www.guru3d.com forums .. ususally a lot of discussion on both these gfx cards there in the nvidia section

The 7800GS gets a lot of criticism largely coz it isn't a thoroughbread 7800...doesn't have the pipelines - it seems to be a gutted version of the 7800. For £40 more...well, it might be worth the extra cost. There might be no better card released for AGP in the future...unless somebody knows different, this is as good as it gets.

the 7800 gs fits the shuttle fine, but id say track down a 6800gt card or go for the 6800gs even at £40 its not much of an improvement unless you oc the card
