That was my cholesterol level when I had it checked yesterday - some tweaking / dramatic alteration of diet (or even a diet!) required...

Anyone else know their level?

Was that total cholesterol or just the bad LDL type stuff? I can't remember mine but I'm pretty sure it was a different scale or something.

Was it the test where you have to starve yourself for a good number of hours before hand?

Getting mine tested in the next few weeks. Doesn't bode well, especially with hear problems in all branches of my family and my dad with dangerously high cholesterol!

I'm lucky, I seem to take after the good side of my family, mine was 4.8.

Just curious. Where did you go to get it checked? Doctors or one of those vans that parks up outside ASDA?

I'm a fat fucker, and he told me that this was 0.5 over what was healthy for my age? That isn't bad then :)
He checked it because I had a killer headache for a few days in a row, and I had high blood pressure, which went back to normal.

8.54.

that's how many units of alcohol they found in my cholesterol. It also had a street value of £4500.

Thats the calibre of an AK47.
It's also the calibre of the H&K G3 and the MG3. I'd rather have 7.62 cholestrol level than a 7.62 NATO bullet in me.

This was a quick blood cholesterol check done by my Occupational Health in work.

My blood pressure was 122/92 :p

Between 10.5 and 11.5 before my meds, 5.9 currently (on a concoction of statins to control it).
Hereditary problem. Doc says I shouldn't bother trying to regulate what I eat - It'd make absolutely no difference.

In that case I'm nowhere near as bad as I thought.

He did tell me people with a level of 7.0 and above were put on statins, so I think I just avoided it :)

True Leggy.

I don't feel any symptoms at all, so it's one of those things that can definitely creep up on you and kill you without any seemingly prior warning.

Mine was about 4.9 when I had it checked at MediCentre about 18 months ago; slightly above recommended but nothing to worry about. However, I have put on about a stone and a half since then :(

4.9 is good tbh. 5 is considered healthy!

Believe it or not, quite the opposite. Statins have an effect on a majority of users - in most cases, people just get used to them. Embarrasingly, the biggest side effect I get is stomach related and flatulence. At least I can blame something else ;)

Been a bit of a change recently : before the El Doc would just slap you on something like Rosavustatin, but now the drugs are getting so common you can get some over the counter (Simvastatin) which are actually more effective.

My father has been experimenting as he was feeling worse when on the statins than before (and with a skyhigh cholesterol). He's been hunting round the internet and has found a few things that will aide cholesterol problems further still : so much so, I've also started using it - Something you can get over the counter, buggered if I can remember what they're called but they look like rabbit poo and have Creatin/Q10 in them. (biosomething Q10 i think) - yes, the same stuff that stops wrinkles. Absolutely no side effects and quite good on their own - may be worth a look for those of you with slightly high levels (5.5-6.5)

No idea about my cholesterol of late, it used to be fine but I'm a couple of stone fatter now than I was then.

I do know that at the peak of my cycling/weightlifting fitness, my heart rate at rest was sometimes below 40 :)
