Yes, but is 16+ to axe as good if you have 50 as if you had 34??

think so, but 50+16 is way better than 34+16 so..

I heard there is a cap of [ (lvl / 5) + 1 ]
that is + 11 for a lvl 50.

Correct, but you can get another +9 from Realm Ranks, so highest it can go is +20.

You will get less back from those 16 'buff' points with a trained skill of 34 than a trained skill of 50 because of diminishing returns.

Once your weapons spec equals level you will do damage in the 100-150% range. The further you exceed it the more you weight your damage to the 150% end of the range I believe.

I've heard tanks get more for "overcapping" weaponspec than e.g rogues. Not sure tho.

after 50 the extra you get for every specpoint becomes smaller, but how much effect it has I dont know. As for starters weaponskill also depends on your stats (str/dex fill in what is appropiate :p) and dependent on weapon/class :).
I wouldnt go to lvl 50 in a weapon if the lvl 50 move is useless, I would get as much extra points from items as i could though :).

From my knowledge base :p

This taken from IGN boards. :)

Here are some WeaponSkill numbers got from using various amounts of Axe spec, and Strength on my L50 Shadowblade. All other stats besides STR and Axe were maintained the same for these tests.

100 STR

44+2 Axe, 657 WS
44+4 Axe, 670 WS
44+6 Axe, 687 WS
44+7 Axe, 696 WS
44+8 Axe, 702 WS
44+9 Axe, 711 WS
44+11 Axe, 728 WS
44+13 Axe, 742 WS

175 STR

44+2 Axe, 851 WS
44+4 Axe, 870 WS
44+6 Axe, 890 WS
44+7 Axe, 901 WS
44+8 Axe, 910 WS
44+9 Axe, 921 WS
44+11 Axe, 943 WS
44+13 Axe, 962 WS

199 STR

44+2 Axe, 913 WS
44+4 Axe, 933 WS
44+6 Axe, 957 WS
44+7 Axe, 969 WS
44+8 Axe, 977 WS
44+9 Axe, 989 WS
44+11 Axe, 1013 WS
44+13 Axe, 1034 WS

219 STR

44+2 Axe, 966 WS
44+4 Axe, 987 WS
44+6 Axe, 1012 WS
44+7 Axe, 1023 WS
44+8 Axe, 1033 WS
44+9 Axe, 1046 WS
44+11 Axe, 1071 WS
44+13 Axe, 1094 WS

223 STR

44+2 Axe, 976 WS
44+4 Axe, 999 WS
44+6 Axe, 1023 WS
44+7 Axe, 1035 WS
44+8 Axe, 1045 WS
44+9 Axe, 1057 WS
44+11 Axe, 1083 WS
44+13 Axe, 1105 WS

225 STR

44+2 Axe, 982 WS
44+4 Axe, 1003 WS
44+6 Axe, 1029 WS
44+7 Axe, 1041 WS
44+8 Axe, 1050 WS
44+9 Axe, 1063 WS
44+11 Axe, 1089 WS
44+13 Axe, 1111 WS

250 STR

44+2 Axe, 1051 WS
44+4 Axe, 1074 WS
44+6 Axe, 1101 WS
44+7 Axe, 1114 WS
44+8 Axe, 1124 WS
44+9 Axe, 1138 WS
44+11 Axe, 1165 WS
44+13 Axe, 1190 WS

271 STR

44+2 Axe, 1103 WS
44+4 Axe, 1127 WS
44+6 Axe, 1155 WS
44+7 Axe, 1168 WS
44+8 Axe, 1181 WS
44+9 Axe, 1194 WS
44+11 Axe, 1222 WS
44+13 Axe, 1248 WS

300 STR

44+2 Axe, 1182 WS
44+4 Axe, 1207 WS
44+6 Axe, 1237 WS
44+7 Axe, 1253 WS
44+8 Axe, 1264 WS
44+9 Axe, 1280 WS
44+11 Axe, 1311 WS
44+13 Axe, 1337 WS

So it seems that the increase in WS from +axe below and above 50 is pretty much the same (with some small bumps in the data, probably from rounding)

Want to see something interesting?

Weaponskill gained from 46 -> 57 axe, at

100 STR: 85, 7.7 per +1 axe
175 STR: 111, 10.1 per +1 axe
199 STR: 121, 11 per +1 axe
219 STR: 128, 11.6 per +1 axe
250 STR: 139, 12.6 per +1 axe
271 STR: 145, 13.2 per +1 axe
300 STR: 155, 14.1 per +1 axe

Higher weapon stat, means you get more from each point of Axe.

And wow look at this, Weaponskill gained from:

100 -> 199 STR, 46 Axe: 256, 2.58 per STR
100 -> 199 STR, 57 Axe: 292, 2.95 per STR
199 -> 250 STR, 46 Axe: 138, 2.71 per STR
199 -> 250 STR, 57 Axe: 156, 3.06 per STR
250 -> 300 STR, 46 Axe: 131, 2.62 per STR
250 -> 300 STR, 57 Axe: 147, 2.94 per STR

So much for diminishing returns on high stats eh?
