50 ranger or NS

Hi all..

thinking about doing some /lvl 20 and getting a stealther to 50 but have some questions

1. what one will be best without a buffbot (no 2nd account and no desire to get one)

2. if i have no buff bot is it even worth making one?

3. what spec would be best for either ns/ranger with and without a buffbot in mind.

4. what sort of money are we talking about to get all my gear 99% and sc'd and can u easily cap all resists ?

1. Ranger. You'll not be doing much heroics, mainly following bait and sniping anyone that goes for it

2. Yes, but you need spods around you to take the heat, so no soloing infils etc. Just follow dudes that look like stealther fodder and don't get caught. Shooting into larger fights is also good. You can go melee if it's already total chaos and not even get picked on sometimes. Also, get the archery RA's Longshot and Volley asap 'cos they're pretty sweet nowadays. Longshot pops all bladeturns, so it's the perfect opener against a mage. Volley can reach just over 4,000 range and is a psudo-aoe attack that also ignores all bladeturns. It's also used for killing buffbots in PK's

3. Read the guides at www.critshot.com and choose something you like I have 34 Stealth, 44 Pierce, 39 Celtic Dual, 30 Recurve Bow and 21 Pathfinding, which also does me well in PvE.

4. 99% grear didn't cost me much... 3p or so, just maxed melee and body resists mainly. Anyone paying 18p must be talking MP armour and full ablatives, which is more of a long term goal. Don't need anything like that to get started.

The golden rule is don't try any gung-ho heroics or you'll end up dead. It's all about looking for opportunities and to be in the right place to take advantage It's good fun and tbh, even with a buffbot you won't withstand the infil-zerg, so sneaky is better imo.

Was going to make this point myself.

The key to playing a stealther with no buff bot is picking your targets and choosing the area you hunt carefully, not something i was very good at as it takes a lot of time to reach the idea spots undiscovered and then i used to die to some buffed SB or infili as soon as i made my first kill.

Its sad to say, but with no buffbot you may find the life of a stealther very frustrating, paing some infili only to have him/her turn around, evade your first blow and then proceed to rip you apart

35 bow 46 path 44 pierce 20 stealth and about 7 CD end spec for me.....

Not sure tbh how good this spec is but I have killed a red con lvl 50 in rvr before and only thing I'm missing is 4 in path and about 20 in pierce (on more than 1 occasion) without having a buffbot (though I could have if I wanted one....no really I could!).

Personally looking forward to lvl 50 so I can cry myself to sleep at how gimped I am.....ooh joy

its the biggest scandel in DAOC this whole BB issue..

hats off to mythic though. They didnt make BB deliberetly i think. but once they realised that about 20% of it its subscribers were paying for 2 accounts just so they could solo, its was never gonna get fixed. The anger has gone now as most people have BB's. but about 1 year ago there was really strong anti BB feelings in this game. its a shame we all accept it now as a reaility of having to solo indaoc. its shouldnt be this way.

Classes like rangers which have what should have been strong soloers due to spec lines like pathfinding are effected worse by BB as one of their classes specialist abilities is actually less than worthless compared to the buffs given from a BB.

In answer to the post. Its not worth rolling either to solo if u dont have a BB. You will find it frustrating as hell that some targets arnt really going to be killable.

I still think ranger can perform well in RVR grps though. but lots dont think so, so you will be neglecated there to.

I think the grp RVR game is a lot more fun though tbh

me and a buddy are taking our bg1 NS's to 50 to roam together unbuffed and in crap gear so maybe one of us can kill a solo buffed stealther eventually ..

hopefully i will be able to steal someones account i know witha 50 druid but it does seem a bit unfair but i spose i need to do somthing to have a chance aginst someone that plays 24/7 and goes on all the raids to get the best gear

Yeah My old ranger Spanker used to kick ass in RvR solo and unbuffed. Cant do that anymore though unless u r high RR, and have a nice SC kit.

1: NS with some of the new gear in ToA would be ok (always other stealthers about)

2: Ofc it is, they are fun

3: Maybe follow some of the blade shades? iirc there is a blade with lifedrain proc (could be wrong though ) that would help a bit

I solo exped my ranger to 50, except about half a level at fins. Took him out in rvr, a total waste of time, either get detroyed by a fully buffed fotm infil or a fully buffed SB. exping a bb myself now, may drag him back out of his box after a respec too, i went high bow which i have come to the conclusion is utterly useless as i dont like to leach. You wont find many people soloing that arent tanks or pet classes.

i used a friends account last night with a lvl 50 NS and some good stuff on him so not to shabby ..

ported my self to mid stealthed up walked out the doors walked down bottom of hill on my way to cause some chaos in the snow and before i got to the bottom of the hill 4 albs stealthers ganked me ..

so i came back ported to mid again

walked down hill spoted 1 mage 1 hero and 3 stealthers walking down hill the albs killed the mage and hero i died helping one ranger managed to kill one and then the hibs ran back up the hill.

this is getting silly i said getting hit for over double what i hit them for is not going to win me any battles

so i then got some nice person to fully druid buff me and then i wondered down the hill killed someone after a reasonablly long battle and then got ganked by someone killing me while i was trying to get health back

i havnt even made it to our gate yet =)

so anyway if u aint buffed it seems u suck wang so i may not bother with it

im not bad loser it just wasnt fun for me i thought it would be maybe i should stick to my bg1 NS's time to make something else that wont require 2 accounts and shit loads of money

You havent lived till you have spent an hour ganking green con mids/albs at their own DF entrance. I killed a full group once, oh how I laughed.

To be honest, thats the only place you can solo viably. Odins crawls with stealth groups of 3 - 4 pies. Its rare you find others soloing unless you head deep into the enemy frontier then you sometimes get lucky. Small stealth groups are the way forward, you should know Albs never travel alone, and unless you want to get serial raped neither should you.

There is no shortage of BB's in TFO mate, usually stood around in the HPK in Odins, or in DL with conc to spare.
