Just as I was getting ready to spunk my hard earned cash on a PS4 and new TV I've noticed these can now be had for less than £500.

Has anyone tried gaming or generally running windows @4K? Here are some benchmarks someone posted on another forum I read:

Apparently AA on a 28" monitor is utterly pointless as well, so nearly every game out atm is very playable on high or ultra settings if you have a 290 or 780 Ti or something. Failing that you can always switch back to 1080 or 1440 which apparently looks just fine.

A PS4, 10 games over a year and a new TV would cost far more than getting one of these and another 290. Hmmm!

4k is ok .. but a gtx titan how much is that ..

plus the 10 games from a pc that you would buy to be comparable. IF you got the space and the money go for it .. you only live once.. im happy with twin 24" 1080p monitors really i would need a new house to get anything bigger

I'd leave it a while and wait for them to refine them.

I reckon if you buy a 4k monitor for £500 it will be crap.

The tech is too new for it to be that 'cheap'

I was drooling over the new Dell 32 UHD monitor (UP3214Q) not long ago but it turns out it's not good at all for gaming because it's a tiled display which leads to all sorts of resolution problems and tearing down the middle and stuff. And also, you have to have a motherfucker of a graphics card because (and again, this is just because it's a tiled display), it doesn't play nice with lower resolutions so it's either 3840 x 2160 or turn it off and go and read a book. I think this is just a problem with the larger displays but it's something to be wary of.

it so happens I was checking out monitors the other day. I want uber colour (e.g. IPS panels) AND fast refresh rates (e.g I want to move to 120Hz), and unfortunately the two are mutually exclusive in flat panels because IPS only works well up to about 75Hz. TN, with flat, washed out colours (comparitatively, ofc) goes to over 144Hz. I'm totes happy with my current rez of 1920x1200 although more pixels in the same 24" package would be nice tbh. I may even get a new gfx card to replace my aging 570 :)

Just wait a couple of years for the 2nd consumer version of the Oculus Rift (or Facebooculus Rift or Oculus Riftbook or whtever it may be called!). :) Chances are it'll be 4k (or higher) and you can have as many virtual monitors as big as you like. :) By that time graphics cards able to push 4k will be a crap load cheaper too.

I play 6k by 1080 on a triple monitor setup. Plays very well using 2 780GTX cards. TESO playing at around 65 fps never drops below 45 on ultra settings. 4k on one card should be equal or better.
