Hi2u all. A few quieries i've been wanting to ask. The majority of chavs and females on my msn list make it impossible to find out other than FreddysHouse!

So, somebody offered to chip my 360 for £40, and then 70p a game. (Mods, i think this is illegal but i'm sorry) I said, yeah great omg hardon irl. Then i came on msn and asked tris and another friend about it. Evidently i cancelled to getting the chip.

Although, i'm still curious if these things are true.

You WILL get banned from Live. Meaning you can't play online with any game including your originals and no way of being unbanned.

If you get the ring of death, your warranty is void and you won't be able to get it repaired from anywhere.

Also having a fan mod will get your xbox banned from live, i don't see why having a fanmod to stop getting the ring of death (as i hear) would get you banned, but i'm just hearing shit from the horses ass.

Any help would be appreciated, i'm just curious and i don't plan on getting it chipped, and this thread could actually make people realise no to getting your xbox chipped!

yup its true chipped machines get banned from live on a monthly basis. And you warranty is void with custom cases. same as alot of electronics, if there is sign of tampering ie being opened then void warranty

The case is easy to open without breaking the tamper seal or leaving marks.

Also consoles are not being banned on a monthly basis, there have been 2 waves of bans so far. One that picked up the early hacked firmwares because they were not handling the security sectors properly. The second and more recent ban is more complicated but basically they appear to be picking up games being used on Xbox Live that were ripped using Kreon firmware DVD drives. An awful lot of people are still using 360 with copied games on Xbox Live daily with the latest iXtreme firmware, there will literally be 1000's of people connected right now in those circumstances.

Using custom mods and cases does invalidate warranty but there is nothing to stop you putting your console back in it's original case and making it look like it was never opened. Trust me, I have done it on more than one occasion.

Lastly, the custom fan mod. As far as I am aware the only reason Microsoft can detect these is because they run at a higher RPM than the standard fan and the 360 has hardware monitoring the fans at all times. Again you could install one and uninstall in the future without making a mess but the risk is of course higher and you will be banned from Xbox Live pretty quickly. Personally I think that is best left alone until someone releases a fan setup that runs at the same RPM and voltage but shifts more air with less noise. That is only a matter of time.

depends if you want to play online or not,
afaik you dont affect your warranty if your xbox is banned,
in addition even if it is modified provided you havent got any blatant chips and such in it its a 50/50 whether they bother to check

Being banned also doesnt stop you playing offline, it just means you cant connect to the live service

There is always a chance you can get banned, but if your xbox is up to date as are your games the chance is pretty low all things considered

It is a unique system key stored in the hardware, there is already an exploit in the works to get and change the key but it is pretty hardcore work and not for amatuers.

Personally i added some nice Nexus's to replace the crappy fans in the case,
i was tempted to just lift the board and put it into another case but it seems like alot of work

Brother had the red circle thing "ring of death", basically your usual green light on the xbox goes red(it's like a warning) as it's overheating. you need to rma it and that usually takes months to be sorted out, also it just freezes if you try to turn it on.

Months?? I think you will find it is a matter of weeks even though they are currently being set to the Czech Republic for repair. Before the autumn they used to turn them around in a week to 10 days. The main reason the repairs now take long is because they retrofit a new cooling system which is much more reliable.

I got a 360 for chrimbo aye, i've had the original xbox for years and loads of friends are on live. I'm a roxing multiplayer gamer so i thought i'd join the ranks, and rule them !

This is all interesting stuff, i love reading about this shit.

The sole reason i wanted to get it chipped was because, well, basically....70p games you can't complain! He said you can play them on live aswell, which was even more of a turn on to me.

If you can play them online then its a total waste of time. I don't buy games without live multiplaying on them, or if i do i completed them quickly and trade them in or get my money back depending on the return policy.

could always buy another second hand 360, get that chipped and still play live on your 'main' one- you're still saving a load of money if you can get games for 70p..
