Fantastic. I feel I may well have overdosed on formula one today but what a beautiful tribute this episode was. Don't think I'll be able to sleep just yet though... hats off to the top gear guys, very nice work.

I maybe a suspicious old bugger but somehow I doubt the timing of the Cruise and Diaz laps....

Can't believe the Cruise lap, seemed fake and JC was a bit uninterested in it, besides Diaz looked faster. Hopefully next week they will get that jamiroquai guy in to knock him off.

Senna tribute was uber, will be re-watching on iplayer when I get some free time today.

Can't believe how much arse-kissing clarkson was doing to cruise & the woman. I wouldn't be surprised if the lap times are genuine - given the appalling lack of talent they were up against, even a grandmother could do a faster lap on her chairlift. Couldn't give a fuck about formual 1, but agree it was a nice tribute to Senna. My favourite bit was the Veyron.

The Top Gear producer was Chris Evans guest this morning on Radio2. He said the times were genuine, but im of the bullshit opinion.

Great show though, and yea the Senna tribute was awesome :)

I dunno Cruise can drive so i think they may be genuine

I didnt really enjoy last nights episode i just felt like it was a special on Cruise and Diaz with a couple of fillers instead of a proper show

I also enjoyed the Veyron bit. It impressed me to how fast it can accelerate even when it's at 300km/h

Why are the bullshit detectors going off? It's a new RPC so who knows what a fast lap is in it... I mean they were up against a BBC Political Reporter, a tall business man, a page 3 girl and a mincer from a dance studio.

Not what I would call stiff competition. Well, apart from the Page 3 girl... *hur hur hur*

Mainly because Diaz just looked faster; Cruise was on two wheels at the end, which isn't exactly conducive to getting the power down. It all just felt a bit "Hollywood" for me.

Remember what Clarkson always says, generally if it looks slow then its being done properly

"looking fast" it utterly irellivant - the times were real, why would they be faked? It was timed that way so they'd be up against no one in particular and could get near the top and be very excited.

I would like to see the Stig's timed lap. They did in the old car, it'd be nice to have a 'benchmark' as such for the new one...

Just watched it on the iplayer - the Veyron bit and Senna tribute were spectacular.
I've been looking forward to this Senna documentary for the last year or so, I hear it's finally out this autumn?

I was particularly suspicious because Diaz normally drives automatic cars, and apparently had huge problems in practice. Plus Hollywood stars suddenly go to the top of the leader board, with the biggest star on top? Hmmm.

Yes, but look at who they were up against? A page 3 bimbo, the gayest man in Britain, the worlds most boring political commentator, a tall business man, Bill Bailey, & Jonny Vaughan. Not exactly stiff competition.

And Cruise is a bit of a speed freak and can actually drive.

Conspiracy nuts, the lot of you.

I doubt it was faked. The BBC isn't taking any chances with fakery, following recent events.

I have to confess to some seat-wetting with the Bugatti Veyron section. That was speed porn at its best.
Still pulling acceleration at 250, 300, 350 kph and only starting to slow down the acceleration from 400 onwards.

What I want to know is how come Captain Slow is now the undisputed fastest presenter on Top Gear? :)
Maybe because he's the only one who would be sensible at those speeds?

Cruise is a complete speed nut. He owns a Bugatti Veyron, a shit load of fast motorbikes, muscle cars, and a spitfire plane. Plus he's American.

I think James May was the perfect choice. Clarkson was superb in the truffle challenge (v funny when he phones the insurance co. up trying to get the Veyron insured) and Hammond, well, I think he's the weakest of the 3 presenters TBH

Good episode, didn't much care for the tribute part(just not much into those), loved the veyron (which is faster then this), love the anti-american "bullshit" crew here :D

The race against snowmobiles was fun too, quite the machine that VW.

Also, if you had a bridge over the atlantic, depending on location, you'd drive over from europe to US in 6-9 hours in the veyron :p

That is if you didn't have to change the tires every 20 minutes and gas up every 10 minutes :p

The Senna tribute reminded me how good f1 was in the 80's and early 90's.

Anyone ever noticed how whenever JC is doing a serious piece, he holds his hand to his mouth?

F1 was ace, then it became utterly shit and has remained so for 10-15 years.
