Anyone recommend one? I posted in the broadband forum (which seemed like the right place since I'm only asking 'cos my new house is too far from the exchange for ADSL and there's no cable coverage in my street) but got no helpful responses yet :/

Best one I have found is Claranet - £14.99 a month, 24/7 access, no phone charges.

Claranet

Only problem is you are limited to about 4hrs per day. If you want more, you have to pay for the business package (£25 pm).

Support is a little slow via E-Mail, but phone support is quick, and very good. Pings to most servers are good (45-60 on BW).

that's my two pennith :D

After looking at some of the prices for all of this I'm starting to consider forgetting all about a home internet connection.... ISDN is stupidly overpriced.

Sigh, in my last house I had basic TV, phone and cable modem for £40/month. Now it's looking like £16/month for TV, ~£30/month for ISDN & phone and then ~£15/month for an 0800 ISP then voice call charges on top of that... coming up for twice the price of my last set up for a vastly inferior service.

BT really are appalling aren't they :/

I used 0800dial. You will find the details at ispreview.
Pinged 60/70 to BW CS servers. ALways able to connect, reliable, and friendly staff.

My brother has the same problem, just spent £900 on a good PC, to play CS amongst other things. Got cable, loved it, moving house, fuX0red for any connection worth having :)
Don't even know if he can get ISDN. Country bumbkin :)

Nah SK, moved back to Derby last week - after wife left I couldn't afford the mortgage & petrol costs I was incurring living in Nottingham so sold the house, made £19k on it, paid chunk to wife, rest pays off big part of my debts, bought nice little house in Derby closer to work :) Only downside is the connection thing but fuck it, maybe it's time for me to get a life instead ;)

Just in case anyone's interested (I know, I know, I'm not even fooling myself :) ) it turns out I may be able to get an NTL cable modem sometime in September so until then I've got one of PC World's cheapest 56k modems and a Freeserve account.

I'd forgotten how painfully slow the internet was at 56k :(

I'm stuck on an isdn line at work, browsing the forums here is fucking abysmal. Sometimes takes as long as 2 minutes for a thread to fully load.

It's painfull :/

I should never have to suffer that feeling again, I hope :)
