fucking bollocks game :/, we won that game, but that ref was shite.

I blame a number of reasons for us losing that match!

1) The ref, that was a fucking GOAL ffs
2) Beckham, absolute shite? Why the fuck does he persist in taking penalties? Hes a fucking free-kick/long shot player, and his penalties show that!
3) Rooney - Major major blow
4) James - Not a bad game, i wont criticise him... much... His penalty saving (Or missing) is almost as horrendous as Beckhams penalties
5) Far too much defending, i mean wtf? You keep pushin your luck its gonna hit you hard

Felt sorry for Vassell, as i did Southgate, but Beckham gets fuck all sympathy from me

If that ref survives he should be relegated to refereeing under 11 football. I missed Bo Selecta because of him.

Go and watch the penalty again. Pay really close attention to his standing (left) foot. The penalty spot was absolute shite, not Beckham. If you look carefully you can see that when Beckham places his standing foot, due to the angle and force with which he places that foot it caused the "penalty spot" to move slightly and the ball moved about 2-3cm to the right just as Beckham hit the ball, thus meaning Beckham didn't strike the ball sweetly and it went high and wide. I hope the majority of English fans don't adopt the same view of it as you as it would be terribly harsh on him, although I admit he's been a bit crap this tournament, not sure why.

Anyone who knows anything about the game will tell you that in that situation the keeper isn't expected to save, James is a shite keeper but you can't blame him for not saving a penalty. Some goalkeepers are better at saving penalties than others, it's very much a psychological thing but the overriding law over penalties is just pure luck.

The way the game developed meant we had to defend, losing Rooney meant that the linkup play between the midfield and the frontmen disappeared and it seems to be an English mentality to sit deep when the opposition come onto you. The way the latin teams play is with a lot of flair and they run with the ball a lot, we're not used to that sort of thing in the English leagues and as a result we gradually sit deeper and deeper. The first goal was typically poor set piece defending, something England have been guilty of all tournament, albeit this one wasn't actually from a set piece but the play was similar. Campbell and Cole were superb all game and we defended very well.

Shows how little you know then, Vassell's penalty was shit.

Why bother posting in the Sports forum, let alone read it then?

No.

Nobody else really had a problem with that spot, yeah it was a bit fucked up from looking at it, he was infront of it, he should have seen it and stamped on it, like the rest of the players did

As ive said, Beckham does not/should not take penalties, hes an excellent crosser but when it comes to penalties, he doesnt have it. Hes taken 3, and missed 3, maybe he should say to himself "Right, ive had my shot at taking penalties, i think before i take something as critical as this, that i just keep practicing".

Someone on IRC come up with a good one about what you said there Mank, about James not "being there" for penalties. Whats he there for? To stand in the middle of the goal like a lemon and just expect the ball to come to his chest? No.

Vassell's penalty was unlucky, the keeper was there to save the ball, and he did, unlike James.

We would have won Trem, if that fuckup ref didnt screw us over in the last minute

The Czechs are gonna win this now, theyve played very very good as they did on other occasions.

England won today. It would have been between England and the Czechs for the final, and that I couldn't call. But England had a very good chance this year.

Truly didn't realise that the sports forum was a special, private room either. Didn't know that only the same opinions on sports matters to everybody elses mattered either.

Ahh well fuck it. Same mentallity as the fans who will now go on the rampage stabbing and smashing up Portugal I guess.

Is that why the Portugese players complained about it to the ref and all stamped on it, because it wasn't a problem? I'm saying that Beckham took the first penalty and due to the way he places his standing leg at such an angle it was not his fault the penalty spot moved beneath him. Unless you expect him to be able to predict the future as well?

Argentina, World Cup 2002. I rest my case.

Go and ask Richard Wright or Nigel Martyn about penalties and they will tell you the same. The very best the goalkeeper can do is hope to save it, nine times out of ten they won't - and that's why goalkeepers don't get blamed and David Beckham does.

Unlike Beckham, Vassell made a very poor contact with the ball and it wasn't a difficult save considering the keeper dived to his left on all but one of the penalties.

You clearly don't give a fuck about it, so why come in here when you know people are going to be pissed off and gutted at losing?

It seemed a plan to place the ball in the centre of the goal, it was working as well.

I jumped to conclusions then, but I've never seen you post in here before and only a few days ago you said you didn't care and I'm pissed off (again) at being called a football hooligan (again).

Perhaps I will go and get pissed and smash some stuff up, that way we can all feel better!
