I'd like to know why you broke up, and then say if you were a complete moron or not, or if the reason had ANY real reason to it...but as it is...there's nothing you can do to fix it anymore so, what's gone is gone.

I'll just say...welcome to life.

Trust me, this is most likely one of the more insignificant things that has happened to you. There's plenty more sh*t in that fan.

Tough luck m8. Makes you feel really shit when that happens. But...you'll bounce back after a while. Its your first girlfriend. You'll have plenty more, along with plenty of bust ups, break ups, arguments, and heartbreaks. As Toto said, "welcome to life". It doesn't get any easier as you get older, but you learn how to deal with such knocks.

go out with your mates and have a laugh. Go to the gym. do anything except sit on your own and get all depressed.

Remember - we didn't win the war by getting depressed (Basil Fawlty)

Watch a load of funny films and DVDs.

I broke up with mine 3 days ago. 2½ long years, and I already miss her. What's gone is gone though, and life goes on. You cant keep looking back at your previous happiness. Get up on the horse again mate, there's plenty of fishes in the sea :)

dunno about you guys, but 1½ year for first girl is a long time? i've noticed a tendency in denmark atleast, that younger and younger teenagers start long term relationships, was it like this in your days of youth? wasnt in mine at least

What does it matter how long you go out with a girl for ? 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 20 years ? You're either not with her, or still with her. Happy, or past history. Single or attached.

Is 18 months a long time ? Not over the lifetime of your average human, no. Is 18 months a long time for a first girlfiend ? Stupid question. Some people marry their first girlfriends and are still with them 40 years later.

Find yourself a "perfect 10 model" and get past it mate. <- Entourage style!

I've been through the same a few months ago... and fuck it hurts. We ended up fucking again. Untill I told her about me being with a few other girls at the same time. She didnt take that lightly. Now we don't fuck anymore;).

But as said earlier, don't sit home alone thinking too much. Get out as much as possible!! - Like plan something for everyday.

And yes weed is always good... just not alone!

lol

Yeah some good advice there. Can relate to most of that apart from the weed- imo it helps to do positive things and improve yourself! Going through something similar although I haven't really figured out whats going on yet. Feels like a ticking time bomb although the fuse was lit a while back.

edit - definitely start watching Entourage :)
edit - Agree with Golly- curse world travelling, and yeah going out having a drink meeting new people is the way forward.

How do people deal with things that remind you of the person?

i agree with most things here, but i came outta my first >1month relationship last month (was 19months this time) and it wasnt nice (girlfriend went world travelling, i was suppose to meet up with her 2months later in fiji- one day she phones up and says its over- ta etc)

but i felt better having a mixture of time on my own and with people, otherwise i feel you kinda brush the whole thing under the carpet, you need to be able to cope with thoughts about the ex without too much resentment or kinda depressed feelings/karma

weed can help if your real low but it only postpones the thinking thats gotta be done, same with alcohol (though alcohol tends to lead to new girls which can be a good cure)

you'l live through it and be stronger for it at the end of the day- <insert overused forest gump quote>

its always hard to end a long relationship mate
i guess, you know why you did it
youll realise it was for the best
unless it was just on a whim
but you'll feel better soon enough

after my first long (+1 year) relationship
i was damn low
as i was cheated on and it felt the worse ever

if its for a good reason
and not on shitty terms
then youll feel better soon enough
if not
you need to talk and clear the air
it will make you feel better and her understand a bit more about whats going on.

Im not trying to sound like a **** here. When i broke up with my gf after 2 years the hardest bit was seeing her with somebody else. It was fucking devastating. The best thing to do is get out, get laid and let your hair down.

Think of all the things you couldn't do when you was with your peg, you can do them all now! You're free ;)

1.5 years just over is a long time imo.

I had a GF for 10 years and I had no choice but to split with her on my b'day of all days. Firstly I didn't want to split with her but as I said I had no choice. Over 3 years she got worse and worse with her drinking and we tried numerous things to help her. In the end her attitude towards people was really wrong and she started turning into a person I didn't know.

This happened at the beginning of the year and funny enough I still have some feelings for her as she phones me up once a week to tell me how she getting on with her drinking (As she is trying to stop) She has said numerous times that once she is sorted with the drink she wants to get back with me as the 10 years together she didn't want to lose.

The first 3 months was pretty damn hard for me. I didn't go out, started to eat unhealthy. Just basically didn't want to do anything as if my life turned upside down (so I thought).

After 9 months (today) I feel hell of alot better and it will for you mate just hang in there and as your young too it shouldn't take you long to find your 'soul mate'. All I say is dont go down the road I went because it doesn't do you any favours.

Well, some already know my standing on cheating, but since it came up:

"When i broke up with my gf after 2 years the hardest bit was seeing her with somebody else. It was fucking devastating."

Depends a lot on the person.

My best friend is my ex and she now is engaged(met him about 5 months after me) to a guy who i knew before she met him(we were separated already) and we go out drinking every now and then.

Also every now and then meet up with her ex, who she lived with before we were together, and i don't mind at all.

Guess i'm, well, since i'm not the jealous type when with a woman, i'm certainly not devastated or effected when i'm no longer with her :D

Amphrax, don't take too much offense into it, but i think you weren't even right for her if you could leave her when she's in that kind of trouble. Hell, you would've had to kill me to get me to leave my girl for something like that.

Yeah but theres too much information to put down and I dont want to go into it because it's none of anyone's business as I didn't want to go right into detail about it. I tried to put as little information down as possible because even now talking about it is hard.

Fair enough, and honestly i wouldn't even care more then a "hmm, interesting" kinda way before i'd grab a soda and watch some TV. But that's people for ya, even if they claim to go "awww" :D

Just a matter of, not knowing you and having real friends who keep my "drama" book busy.
