I currently have a 17 inch Iiyama prolite E431S, its nice and works fine but I want something a bit bigger :D

I have been looking at these two:

Samsung Pebble SM2232BW 22" TFT Monitor Widescreen 1680x1050 3000:1 300cd/m2 2ms VGA/DVI Gloss Black 3 Years Warranty - Ebuyer

Iiyama PLE2202WSV-B1 22" LCD Widescreen Monitor 1680x1050 1000:1 300cd/m2 5ms Black - Ebuyer

I've had good experiences with iiyama and so am tempted by the 22inch version, but it has no reviews which could be a bad thing.
The main downside to the Samsung is the backlight bleed which seems to be variable, i dont know if my current monitor has it, and dont know if it would bug me if it did!

Any other ones to look at, or suggestions?

Theres also these, but again, I know nothing about monitors so dont know what to look for. I know a low response time is good, but apparently (so the internet says) my current one has a 16ms one so anything lower than that is an improvement.

Samsung SM225BW 22" TFT Monitor Widescreen 1680x1050 700:1 280cd/m2 5ms VGA/DVI H/Adjust Black 3 Years Warranty - Ebuyer

LG M228WA 22" TV/Monitor Widescreen 1680x1050 60Hz 3000:1 300 cd/m2 5ms VGA/DVI-D Tuner Speakers - Ebuyer

I guess if it has a TV tuner thats a bonus, although I have no socket for it in my room.

Aren't 22" monitors just bigger 20" monitors, i.e. same resolution different physical size (dot pitch)?

You thought about a 24" instead, say this one Acer 2416WB 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black, or the good old dell 2407 if your budget stretches?

Of the two I'd suggest the Samsung. They make everything themselves (unlike iiyama who have to source the panel off a supplier) and the monitors tend to be a higher quality.

I'd go for a 24 if i could find a good one that could meet my budget, but I'm aiming for under 225 if possible, which that Acer is happily. Is it good quality?

edit, the Acer one is VGA only. My gfx card has DVI too, but I dont have a DVI specific cable. Should I be worried and look for a monitor with DVI too?

DVI means a high fidelity image, as there's no digital to analogue to digital conversion, and errors will be introduced in each of these steps. Most monitors come with a DVI cable these days.

24" monitors in your budget are a bit hard to find, although here's oner:

Acer P243W Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver A bit above your budget though, £275 or so inc delivery

Acer monitors are very much alike their laptops - very flimsy.
But then again, you won't be hurling them around your room too often ;) The display is decent enough certainly, and for the price you can't complain too much.

BUT, check out Dell's offers - they often have 24" going for 250ish, may need to borrow a coupon from someone for tha to apply though.

Again, echo'ing everyone elses sentiments I'd go for a 24".

Personally, I think of all computer components etc the monitor is going to be the one worth investing as much money as you possibly can in. I've generally kept my monitors for quite a while...

The new Dell 24" (2408WFP) is due out very soon, so I'd expect prices to drop on the existing model (2407WFP-HC) as places try to clear stock. Also, eBay and some offer places offer refurb'ed models for around your price range if your interested.

Very true, but I'd recommend a TV over a TV card any day - the cards (and usb sticks to less extend) are very prone to interference from the rest of your kit.

Never had any issues with my PCI DVB-T TV Card personally infact I get a better signal with it than on my TV. But the bundled software is normally shit which is why I purchased a copy of DVBViewer for about £15.

Just that a lot of consumer electronics has HDMI these days, if you have DVI with HDCP you could connect, for example, a HDMI Freeview box to the monitor (as a kludge). Although you are probably better off just having a card in your PC.
