"The premium O2* package just about qualifies as superfast, at 20Mbps with no download limit. It's £15/month, or £10/month for existing customers if it's available in your area. Yet it'll give you the first two months free when you sign up, bringing the effective cost down to £12.50 (£8.33) over the 12 month contract.

SimplifyDigital deal - £70 automatic cashback!

Until Midnight Tuesday 16 Feb comparison site SimplifyDigital* will give you a £70 cheque to take out this package. This brings the effective cost down to just £6.66/mth, or a mere £2.50/mth for existing customers, and the cashback's automatic.

To get the deal, just call its team on 0800 840 5405. For terms click the link above.

QUICK FACTS. Speed: up to 20Mbps Download Limit: None (Fair usage policy applies) Modem & Connection Fee Included: Yes, including a wireless router. Migration Fee for switchers: None Technical Support Phone Costs: Free (0800) Traffic Shaping: None, congestion at busy times though"

Incase anyone is interested - kinda gutted I went for the bloudy 8mb version now ;) Note when it says existing customers it means you have a sim card on o2 or something like that. PAYG is fine.

it's not unlimited and the 02 network is pretty patchy after all their shaping shenanigens.

"up to"
"fair use policy"

Its nothing special at all, though ofc its still a lot cheaper than other providers and from experience with their phone help line they use a lot of UK call centres. The likes of BT use call centres for their broadband help in arseendofnowereastan and they barely speak English, there is no way of escalating the problem anywhere else so if you have a problem there is no way to have it resolved.

I'm with O2's 8mb (only can get a max of 4mb due to location - exchange is a fair few miles away) and I have never gone below 3.5mb even at peak time.

The support I felt was really good. Text messages before any works which may affect speed etc. and texts to remind us about billing yada yada.

For 2.50 - for the average internet user who doesn't download torrents and illegal material day in day out, it's a fantastic deal.

That has nothing to do with it.

I-player (or any other streaming video site)
Steam (or any other games store, online distribution is the current and future distribution choice for many)
Also wanting low latency in online games

If all you want to do is check your emails you may as well get the 2 meg line limited to a gig (or whatever)

I am lucky if I get 1.5 meg where I am, actual downloads of 150 kb/s ofc. I-player is just about usable with that. I only live about 3 miles from the exchange but due to the addiction of our council to allow building on just about every spare bit of land the exchange is massively over subscribed.

20mb for 2.50/month is special because its cheap.

Even if you only got 10mb out of it - it's still a great price.

Did you even read up on the t&c's of the fair usage policy? O2 don't have a set download limit; its just circumstantial. I've downloaded a good 40gb of games past 1-2 months and received nothing from them about it.

bugz, you really shouldnt get arsey with poeple who obviously know more about something than you do

they have a patchy network as was mentioned, and anyway, if it was that good, surely everyone would be using it ? or are you missing something ? :p

L2 be less naive ?

It's cheap fuckin broadband. I use the service - there has been no problems for me - I am simply passing the deal on.

So kindly fuck off Mabs. Not only was I not arguing against the patchy network comment made by Chilly, I never said 'it was that good.' Indeed, the thing I highlighted most was the price.

The fair usage policy is a cover all get out of jail card for the ISP, it uses ambiguous terminology and allows them to throttle bandwidth as and when they please. Its not something that is unique to O2 at all but (so I have heard) they are one of the quickest to wave it in your face. 40gig over two months is nothing at all anyway. A PC game comes in at up to 15 gig these days, half an hours I-player at around 400-500 meg. It all adds up.

So we're now arguing against O2 for the fact they have a policy similar to a lot of other ISP providers & they are 'apparently' the quickest to wave it in your face.

If I get nothing from 40gb of steam downloads; 10gb+ of updates; i-player; 4od etc. and all the uni work I have to unfortunately download as I'm too lazy to turn up to lectures then the average user will be fine.

I am not arguing what is the best isp or the isp which will send you to the moon, I am simply highlighting a cheap provider, whom I have experience of using, who are offering a good deal.

If you don't like the offer or the company, then disregard this post and those above. I will stop posting here so the thread doesn't turn into a slagging match or a 'whos better at the internets.' I was passing on a good deal with some added experience of using them myself.

Get over it bugz - it's a discussion forum, so people can and will post their own thoughts or comments on any given topic... it is not called 'The-suck-up-to-bugz-opinions forum' is it....

It is cheap, but as meg pointed out, there have been better money back offers in recent months.

Never had a problem with O2 on either 20mbit or 8mbit - reliable, never gone below the rated speeds in peak times, no shaping, no performance hits. Only a couple of downs due to network maintenance/fuckups but a mile ahead of anything else.

Have read a bit about reliability issues elsewhere in the country so could well be a bit of a postcode lottery.

Are O2 using UK Onlines network or was it Be*? Who bought Bulldog out, maybe that was O2?

Trying to build myself a good package, currently on Virgin but the grapevine tells me I will be leaving them before Easter so need telly (probably motorised dish) and BB for as cheap as possible and I was thinking about O2.

Bulldog was bought by Pipex/Tiscali.

I'm on O2 and apart from a shaky start which they resolved relatively quickly it's been great ever since. If there's ever an outage they send text updates to my mobile to say they're aware of it and are fixing it and then text again when the problem's been fixed.
O2 is a re-badged Be service and I download a crap load and have never been moaned at.

I keep an eye on these sort of things, but since no ISP is putting their equipment into my exchange there's no point me considering them. All I'll be getting is the standard BT ADSL Max but rebadged.

For that price I'd want to grab that horse by the halter and take a DAMN good look at it's teeth. :)

I've had no problems with O2 since swapping to them in December. I also download rakes of crap and am gaming all the time.

I think a lot of connection stuff can come down to the quality of your actual phone line sometimes though as I never had any issues with Sky either. However when I first switched to ADSL is was gash and BT came out and rewired the external cables (which were submerged in a water filled manhole) for nada.
