Deus Ex (yes I know I'm looking forward to the third :p)
Unreal
Shenmue
Gran Tourismo
Grand Theft Auto
Soul Blade
Resident Evil
etc.

I could go on...

You really feel that Resident Evil 2, Soul Calibur, Gran Turismo 2/3/4 are worse than the originals?

Plus, Grand Theft Auto 3 shows that a sequel doesn't have to be bereft of that "oo new game!" quality.

Now now, we all know that the 2D GTA's were the best!

Well I'm not going to argue with that (not because I agree, but because I don't really care either way) but GTA3 clearly had an "ooo shiny new game" effect. The fact that this mahoosive city was all there to explore in 3D, that was something special.

But we had huge City's in Driver and Driver 2, not to mention Elder Scrolls Arena and Daggerfall, granted you couldn't get out and walk in the driver series, I don't know what it is about GTA3 but it has always been one of the worse GTA's now replaced by the 'im a serious games really' GTA4 it couldn't hold my interest for long, but when Vice City came out I couldn't stop playing, I've finished it at least 10 times and modded it to death with new models, cars, buildings, islands etc.

Sorry for the mini rant.

Not necessarily worse, but I enjoyed them less. Progress is great and we all love it, but those sequels lacked the special qualities that made the first so enjoyable because they were essentially the same, only slightly different. I didn't even finish Resident Evil 2, there wasn't enough in it to drive me to do so.

Shame on you Resident Evil 2 is one of the best in the series.

Well, personally GTA 1 and 2 is some of my best LAN memories :) GTA3 and 4 never interested me.

Is starcraft 2 coming in 2010? If yes than that is the only game I'm looking forward too :p

But not the best, the first was.

The first was great but the 2nd was bigger, more weapons, more types of infected and the whole city environment just totally rocked but heh that's just my opinion :)

The setting for the first one got the atmosphere totally right, the whole mansion thing gave a really genuinely creepy atmosphere, something I felt lacking in 2. It didn't feel like you were there as much - in the first one you'd genuinely think twice about opening any door in that bastard house - in later ones this kind of effect dwindles massively and you just go ahead regardless. It's moments like that that make games special for me, rather than just seeing things endlessly 'expanded'.

I agree with Waz, though the second one was worthy of a release, it expanded on the story well.

Oh totally Res1 was pretty creepy I thought they all were except 5 that was just a Hollywood action game which didn't do it for me at all.

I personally like Code Veronica as my fav but I notice people seem to not even mention it these days.

I got it for my DC, started playing it but couldn't be arsed to give myself time to get used to the slightly poor control system and died lots and haven't touched it since. May try and go back to it, been thinking of hooking the DC up again.

Dante's Inferno demo is excellent, think God of War set in the crusades with really tight and responsive controls.

Resi 1 was the best because it broke new ground, It basically convinced me to buy a PS1, my mate bought it along with a PS1 and stayed over, we shat our selves several times.
Some of the sequels were better but they were nothing new really, they just built on something that was great. Code veronica was good, I had it on the dreamcast but it didn't do anything new. HL1 is better than HL2 at the time of playing but that doesn't mean HL2 is rubbish, its an awesome game in its own right.

A good squeal to perfection is more than good enough for me.

I have drunk so much Pino Gritio I can't even see properly so if you can make sence of that then you can get a rep.

I normally don't like these sort of games as I am crap after the first few lvls, but I really enjoyed the demo, to the point where I may actually purchase the game. Played the Bayonetta demo OMG I had no idea what was going on for the whole demo just me flying round the screen collecting rings from dead guys and occasionally activating the torture stuff like the iron maiden. Might get that aswell.
