Evening.

Looking for a 144hz monitor around the £300 mark. I've seen a few but was wondering if anyone had much experience / advice for me.

Perfect. I did see the AOC but haven't heard of the brand so was sceptical.

I think I'll go with the 27 inch at 270.

Thanks @ECA

Note, its still only 1080 though. The 2k version £420

As for AOC, pretty decent build quality on their low end panels, so I would expect the mid-high end to be decent too.

GSync or FreeSync?

GSync is the bullshit Nvidia make you pay an extra £200* per screen for, FreeSync is the one AMD make you pay nothing for.

Both basically force the monitor to match the fps of the graphics card.

Trouble is, AMD cards are still way behind Nvidia to the the point that Nvidia have delayed the release of their new generation cards so they can laugh at AMDs attempts to keep up some more.

*or whatever

You need one or the other to match your card. The difference is very noticeable if you don't.

It isn't if you max FPS out on the game you're playing.

I don't know who's playing in the 24-55fps range that it'd be worth spending the money on gsync for.

But that's exactly the kind of range you do need GSync/FreeSync as that's when you'd notice tearing the most. Typically at extra high resolutions or when going for visual quality over FPS.

Right but who the fuck would want to play at that sort of fps on a 144hz monitor?

If your buying a 144hz for shooters you're gonna drop the settings to maintain 150+ constant.
