120Hz TN or IPS Monitor?

I'm being indecisive.

I was a heartbeat away from getting an IPS monitor but after more poking around they're saying "serious gamers" should get 120Hz TN screens for heavy first person shooter use.

I thought I'd ask if anyone here has experience of either?

For an IPS screen as it's had pretty good reviews but when it comes to 120Hz screens it all seems much of a muchness.

Can I get some opinions please?

Sadly I use neither although I know IPS panels are good, the only issue they used to have was a slightly higher response time which could cause slight ghosting but that was mainly resolved. As for 120Hz screens they were originally for 3D afaik although they've been angled as general gaming screens although I'm not sure they really matter that much in terms of real advantages they provide for gamers.
