Music is entirely a matter of personal taste (except, possibly, in the case of Westlife).

However, in my personal taste, hip-hop is utter crap. :)

Outkast are the only group from this genre that I would listen to.

Anything that charts is almost always appaulingly bad, and that is usually all the hip hop I get to hear.
DJ Shadow is the bollocks though. or is that Trip Hop?

Yes, hip hop is quite good, however it's God's Son, and the album is only any good for that JB sample and the Apache Sample which is pretty ereet. Put on Illmatic instead, or even better get an Edan album or the new Cannibal Ox album.

The Apache sample has been going since the 80's.

Could someone please find a new sample for hip-hop to use?

It's not the usual Apache drums tho, it's a short loop of the twangly guitar, which means he (or Premier) gets a big nod for good work.

Besides which, I'd say that DnB uses the Apache (and the Amen) far more than Hip hop.

Xzibit > all

Paparazzi is still the greatest hip-hop tune (or is it a cut? I have no idea what kids are calling them these days!) ever. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Xzibit is good, but Paparazzi the greatest tune ever? You obviously haven't heard a lot of good hip-hop. Most NWA tracks I can think of are better than that.

Don't Approach Me, on Restless by Xzibit feat. Eminem is a fantastic track. I like Eminem when he's not being a cock, which is basically none of his commercial releases (Stan = wicked though). Outkast are good, and everyone who has even the remotest interest in hip hop should listen to this. Jurassic 5 are the true daddies though. :)

I think its worth big money as well.

NWA are actually rapping about something in a practically new, huge market though. Their songs have energy and still seem fresh today as they did ten years ago. Straight Outta Compton is an album that I have never seen rivalled in the Rap world. Their records were like the great concept albums of the '60s, designed in absolute genius fashion. Cube and Dre created a cinematic texture to rap that had never been there before, with Eazy E as the man that a directionless youth could relate to.

After NWA there were a million clones, none of them bringing in anything new to the industry. NWA made rap dangerous and controversial and brought it into the homes of millions.
