Stormur Herra would be Stormlord just as Herra would be Lord - which is the same as the Albion equivalent :p Fru and Baronsfru are just sad though - wife and baron's wife respectively :(

Yeah... Never really heard about Barons in Viking or Norse Mythology texts...

They should've gone with Jarl as the top Mid title, at least for men. Might've been more difficult to find something suitable for female toons.

Even if it had been more difficult, they'd be sure to come up with something better than baronsfru.. Even jarlefru would've been better

My suggestion -

Commander/General/something military for all ranks/realms. Would make alot more sense to the universe.

Would make more sense to the universe as it is today, but not to the mythological/fantasy time that DAoC is trying to be losely based on...

No, i don't. But then I bet you can give me 12 military ranks that would suit Midgard, then...
I don't know about military ranks in Albion or Hibernia, so I won't go into that..

Just translate em into something nordic.

IE:
Private - Grenader
Corporal - Korporal
Sergeant - Serjsant
2nd Lieutenant - Fenrik
1st Lieutenant - Løytnant
Captain - Kaptein/Rittmester
Major - Major
Lieutenant Colonel - Oberstløytnant
Colonel - Oberst
Brigadier General - Brigadier
Major General - Generalmajor
Lietenant General - Generalløytnant
General - General

Just to prove that it CAN be done, not very likely to happen, and not a very good idea either probably.

Just to explain myself tho, I didn't mean for them to implant true military rankings like this, but what I had in mind was like our guards. Mid guards have titles like Jarl, and albs like Commander, and hibs have Champion etc.

So what I was thinking that they could add something like this, like Briton Suppreme Commander or whatever tbh? Imo yes.

The game needs some exotic titles, with a real medieval feel to them. Cold, iron titles to strike fear in the peasantry. Albion has the least imaginative ranks... cow knight, sheep knight, chicken knight.. :x

What makes you think there existed a true military hierarchy in the dark ages? Such a hiearchy had to be very flat for the main reason "armies" were very small or your chain of command/communication would be horribly fubar, a bit like our chat system ingame :D. Your table or something similar, would only work when mass armies made their appearance with the birth of modern warfare around 16 to 17th C and would be totally unappropriate for the era the game is supposed to be based loosely on. What Ara is suggesting is to stay within the pantheon of Norse mythology as the realm is based on it, having Generals moving around in the realm would ruin much of what Mythic has put into the design of the realm. Your idea drifts away 500 years ;)

Agree with you it's a bad idea with Major in Midgard... But also agree that Jarl and Huscarl can be used in that setting. ;)

Albion RR12 titles definitely need to change...

Baron/Baroness
Count/Countess
Duke/Duchess

Any of the above would be ok...

Countess Alithiel has a nice ring to it, I think! ;)

besides that using actual military names would give people the feeling that the higher the RR the more you have to say about others (like in a real army). Meaning that RR10+ means you order the complete realm around and allthough the more experienced players tend to have the lead in keepfights, it doesnt really matter which RR their current char is. RR means you have fought more than others and as reward you have more skillpoints to spend, you arent actually as RR12 (general) you arent meant to actually lead the rest of the realm into the battle. Which you need is titles that reflect the honour of having slain so many enemies, but without actually making the titles reflect on who the realm should turn to to lead the fight.

- The amount of realm points received for killing someone of lower realm rank/level than you has been increased significantly.

Will grey ganking in DF be worth more?

Surely that is already implemented for assassins since they flock around the greycons like horseflies around manure when they are in DF. :)
