Frankly, knowing Jonaldo, I am pretty sure he was "'avin' a larff" rather than trying to cause anyone serious offence. It's a judgement call, yes, but if we pulled the rug out from under all dodgy comments people made then:

a) There would be no arguments

b) The mods would be classed as being 'over-zealous' (just trying to be consistent)

c) There would be no need for Bodhi, Wij or Mank

Where would that leave us, eh?

More seriously, if you DO find a post to be seriously offensive (and by that I mean getting a sense of real malice behind the poster's words) then hit the report post button, and your views will be taken into consideration. In the real world, there is a line. You cannot see it, but when you were younger, you may have heard grown ups talk about it being 'stepped over'.

Us mods try to imagine that line too - if you were to make a light-hearted quip with recaist overtones, as a one off (this is just an example, by the way) then we would likely just keep an eye on the thread to make sure all hell didn't break loose and turn a blind eye... perhaps even chuckle a little.

Make a racist comment directed at an individual forum user, or persist in forcing racist views on the populus and we would take it more seriously.

Just examples - there is no way on earth to outline all possible scenarios, which is why we have to use this thing called 'discretion'.

I feel this way mainly because when I was at school terms like fudge packer and gaylord were deadly insults. If someone were to call me a name like that now I'd probably wet myself laughing.

I tried it the other day and sat down with an old mate from school and went through some of the insults we used to use - we were cracking up at how lame they were... hence why I'd have agreed with jupitus. I think with other types of insults it's harder to see the childishness of them.

As regards Robbie Williams I don't give a shit whether he's bent or not, knowing the area he's from tho, I could see why he would be concerned about appearing to be gay in that area. It's a bit like Darren Gough on the dancing show thingy - he was very concerned that Ballroom Dancing would give him an effeminate image.
