Timezones

Hi peeps :)

Just a quick note on suggesting that we try and standardise on GMT for raids and general events. I've suggested GMT as this is the basis for which all timezones are based upon.

This would make it easier for those arranging events and for those attending them. It is really easy to miss events . Using different timezones is sometimes confusing. An example is this weekends ml3 raid, which is 19:00 GMT and the pre-steps 15:00 CET. You can understand why I missed it :D I thought it was 15:00 GMT, same time zone as ml3 proper.

Hey, maybe all of you have never had this issue, I have and I wanna make life easier :)

Cheers everyone,

Sec !

All servers that run DAoC by GOA are located in Paris.
Paris is CET.
All servers do also run with a clock that is accurate to CET time.

How hard is it for english people to adapt to what actually is the fact?
Refering to every person that believe that since it's an english speaking server, everyone have to use the GMT time !?

My point was that the WORLD time zones are based upon a reference from GMT. Im not sure if insulting a nation is a valid post though ;)

Also, pc's, wall clocks and the such do not take reference from a game server clock :twak:

Many thanks for your comments though :)

Sec.

(Looks at the German Servers) Tjo, more then 50% play Daoc in GMT. Me and tons of other German Peeps on Excalibur/Prydwen included. Hihi :p

But i don't really care in what Timezone they announce Raids etc. xD

And before i get silly answers. Yes on Excalibur and Prydwen most Players live in the CeT Zone!

Hmm didn't really catch that, so you say, that on the English servers you think more than 50% plays on cet, i think so too,
but the german servers? dont think many other peoples than germans play on those? :) and arent they all CET?, and France all CET aswell? :)

Excalibur/Prydwen however should have the most variable people, .uk .fi .gr .sp etc

About the ingame clock, i'm not sure how it works, because it matches my clock on my desk, which is GMT.
The problem with GMT is when clocks go backwards and forwards, it gets confusing and then I dont know if its BST or GMT or what?!

Most people playing Mid/Excal will be in the CET timezone, so naturally they will arrange their raids as CET times. You are free to announce your own raids in GMT times, but to be certain anough people show up, it would be wise to make sure that you post it is GMT.

Other than that, I find it quite arrogant to suggest a GMT as standard timezone for raids, when clearly the majority of ppl in this realm lives in CET zone.

So the vast majority of the server plays in CET, so what. The vast majority of the server doesn't speak english as a native language either, but all raids are posted in english.

Would suprise me very much if the clock you see ingame didn't match to the one on your desk. This is because that time is the same as your computer clock. Try change your clock on your computer and you should see the one ingame also change.

The intention was not to be arrogant. All timezones are based upon GMT, that is why I suggested it as a standard for raids and the such.

Great bunch of threads though, keep 'em coming :D

At present the following points are being raised:

Comments in favour of CET:
1) Servers are based in Europe
2) An unknown percentage of people are based in europe. Any ideas how to get an accurate figure of daoc players in UK and those in Europe?

Comments in favour of GMT:
1) Excalibur is an english speaking server
2) All posts are in English.

Keep 'em coming :D

CET > GMT.

GMT sucks, it doesn't change with summer/winter time.
Half of the year, CET = GMT+1 and the other half it's GMT+2 for Europe (GMT+0 or GMT+1 for UK and Portugal).
