We're going to be car shopping soon - not for us but for the sister in law, who's Astra is having to be sent to the great scrapyard in the sky. It's clearly been run very low on oil at some point in its life, and now at 20 years old the engine is fucked. Runs fine for a while, then when the oil gets warm the oil pressure light comes on and it sounds like a skeleton wanking in a biscuit tin. Given the coolant is full of oil I'd say that's the end of that then.

Only issue is she's a single mum so doesn't have a huge budget, so we'll be shopping at the sub 2k part of the market.

So that'll be the old spaceship style Honda Civic then!

I mean, I wonder how many of these are just actors paid to do this for TV. But yeah.

Aside from laughing at the spoiled bitch, the pertinent thing here is that Dr Phil called her mum a child abuser. And (assuming: real) he'd be 100% right.

Dr Phil is a phoney and deserves no more respect than that very bad actor of a teenage girl.

Just for info, this is charging from a 55p per kwh charger tonight. I can reclaim the VAT. That's enough electricity for about 140 miles of driving. I am considering ways to charge from my house, which will be about 30p per kwh during the day, or about 9p per kwh after midnight. But even using public chargers, it's less than I'd be paying for my old car, which had a 3.3l V6 petrol engine and was about £80 for 360 miles.

55p/kwh? It's about 21p/kwh through outfox the market. 27p with british gas. So nice to see you get raped at the pumps.

How long did it take to charge?

My volvo v60 does about 700 miles for £80... ~60mpg.

Edit: 16:27 - 19:34? Don't tell me that took you 3 hours?

Charging companies have complained for a while that VAT at public chargers is 20% whereas at home it is 5%.

It isn't a DC fast charger but an AC shared charger, hence it takes longer.

Even if it was zero-rated that'd still be more than double what you can get at home.

These companies are raping the public regardless of VAT. If you took VAT off them, then they'd whack it up to 55p anyway and pocket the bonus.

That they may be but the costs involved aren't cheap, which is another part of the problem with charging infrastructure.

They put a charging station in town, it got vandalised and never came back. They seem to have some at most fast food places/retail parks, not sure if you have to be a customer, or just roll up. I guess they get some sort of deal in planning.

I have no choice but to park on the other side of the road from my house, my front garden is ~25m long and has no power. Some guy in the village laid a cable across the path to charge his, caused a fuss and stopped (no idea if told to stop) I just don't think we can get over the inconvenience, and having to pay a ~25% premium on the initial outlay, to do so. I would rather not pump crap into the atmosphere, but give me a better option.

This is the thing about green tech. People don't want to make changes, even when it's relatively easy.

Where I live there are about 12 places within 10 miles which offer 50kw+, although a couple of them might be out of service which is another issue that companies need to sort out quicker.

Alternative perspective, I don't want to carve up a cottage garden, with a ~300-year-old semi-dry stone wall, to park an ugly pile of metal, when there is perfectly adequate parking outside.

Fair enough. Can you not park on your side of the road?

Digging a trench, putting a cable under the wall and a 32amp socket (or whatever) out the other side would be relatively easy.

Although to be fair - after spending 18 months (so far) renovating my house wanging a cable acrross a garden and making it look like nothing ever happened is sort of trivial to me nowadays. YMMV.

Cheaper fuel isn't the point for me, road pricing when it arrives will negate all that anyway. Evs are cheaper to maintain because there's so much less to go wrong, but the fact is that the technology is just better. No big vibrating lump of metal to worry about, no exhaust, the whole thing is just utterly silent and smooth. It's like going from a nokia to an iPhone.

Anyhow I will be charging from home, just not at 7kw for a while, I don't even have a consumer unit yet.

Oh and yeah, not polluting the air with exhaust or brake dust does make me feel a bit smug. Although I still do most of my personal stuff on a bicycle.

Baroness Bertin: "Whether you’re 15 or 55 there is a great deal of content that just should not be allowed"

Produced by consenting adults.

Fuck you Baroness Bertin. I hope you die in a hole.

It proposes outlawing "degrading, violent and misogynistic content", including making it illegal to possess or publish pornography showing women being choked during sex.

Non-fatal strangulation is already an offence if someone does not consent but its depiction online is not illegal and the review finds it is "rife on mainstream platforms".

And lots of women flick their bean to it...

Remember - this is the country that made face-sitting illegal.

Watched a lot of videos where all the cuss words on screen (even words like sex, drugs, and only fans) have been replaced by blurred text yet the guy talking can clearly be heard saying every word without being editied :eek7:

Yeah. I can't get a copy of Galaxy Quest where Sigourney Weaver says "fuck that" when they come across the stompers - it's the only swear in the whole film and really worth it.

So many fucking people want to ban shit without evidencing actual harm. Computer games used to be it, whatever whatever. Now it's fucking choking. Or mysoginy (as long as the women who volunteer to take part in filming this stuff don't get a say). But "think of the children"??!! Eh? Although (almost) every single parent I know wants to ban shit, not a single one of them would withold a mobile phone from their child until the age of 16, or learn about the fucking internet enough to be able to effectively police it.

Fuck these censorious, terrified assholes.

I feel like I've missed a trick by not playing Elite: Dangerous.

I picked it up in Beta, put about 30 hours into it and was really enjoying myself. Then they wiped the saves for release and I went "fuck it" and never went back. Had a couple of looks in VR (utterly stunning) but by then had moved here and didn't have the space or time.

There was a big Thargoid war and some of the footage was really fucking cool (I watched an in-game vid of a 'titan' exploding in a nebula - the captain of the ship had to get to like earth > mars distances so the explosion wouldn't take him out.

Now apparently they're releasing a "go colonise the solar systems" update. Including planets, of course.
