I know we have harm reduction but I disagree that our tax should go to subsidise the tobacco industry.

If you can make giving up smoking easier and therefore have more chance of success then anything is good, talking as an ex smoking addict.
I agree. I vaped for 3-4 years to try and stop smoking. It was only going onto the gum that actually got me off it, the vaping just replaced it. It probably is healthier than smoking, but the long term risks are a complete unknown.I disagree. Gum/patches/inhalators etc are designed to wean you off cigarettes completely and are available free of charge on the NHS. Replacing cigarettes with vapes/e-cigs is just swapping out crutches and if that's the case then the smoker should be paying for that themselves. And I'm speaking as a current smoker.

Does "stopping smoking" = "continuing vaping"?
i.e. if you're off the fags, but vape like a motherfucker, have you "stopped smoking"?
Yep. Vaping isn't a quitting aid. It's addiction-subsidy.

Smoking isn't just about giving up the physical addiction to nicotine it is also about giving up the act of smoking. Nothing worked for me except Champix in the end, which can seriously fuck people up and even then, the hardest part was changing routine...Im not even sure if Champix is a thing anymore. Gum and lozenges leave a lot of people feeling sick and the patches leave horrendous rashes.

Yep - but the question is about the classification. In my opinion, no. Never met a vaper who wasn't having the odd fag as well.

Do the government class "vapers" as having stopped smoking?
My mate has started using tabex, something from Bulgaria similar to Champix. 2 days of using it and he hasn't slept yet so god knows what's in it!
Yes. Remember the old saying there's no smoke without fire? Well considering there is no fire involved with vaping - unless you get a properly cheap vape - I think we can fairly assume there is no smoke involved. No smoke means it isn't smoking.
HTH
Obviously, if you're not smoking fags you're stopping smoking. But if you're still vaping - does the NHS continue to subsidise?
What if you've started smoking again? Can you go back to your doctor and get vapes?
If this is the case it's massively obviously open to abuse and it means taxpayers will be picking up the bill for people to vape.
Open to abuse tbh.To me that all depends. If someone wants to carry on with nicotine I wouldn't be in favour of the NHS subsidising it. But if they want to quit completely, then I would as it looks to be the most effective tool to make that happen.
Whatever happened to just letting them all chew on Bic Biro's?Luckily those with full access to the latest research around quitting disagree

Vaping better than nicotine replacement therapy for stopping smoking, evidence suggests
As number of vapers in England plateaus, incorrect perceptions of its relative risks compared to smoking may be discouraging smokers from using vaping to quit.www.gov.uk
Normal way to quit I've seen through vaping is to move across, then gradually reduce the nicotine levels of the "juice" until you reach zero, then wean yourself off that. Would be incredibly easy to design a treatment regimen around that concept tbh.
Unless you listen to the particularly unhinged part of the tobacco control lobby vaping is far safer than smoking, so even if people just switch over, it's a massive net benefit for Public Health.
