Lets look at it one last time:

View: https://twitter.com/StopAntisemites/status/1488237656240803841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1488237656240803841%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hollywoodreporter.com%2Ftv%2Ftv-news%2Fwhoopi-goldberg-the-view-holocaust-comment-draws-criticism-1235084661%2F

It's a clear statement about what the actual reality is. It's very clear what she's saying there - what the point she's trying to make is (before the music starts up to shut her up).

It's only really about race - it CAN only really be about race - if jews are a race.

And they're not.

Are they?

She is saying it was NOT ABOUT race.

She's not saying they weren't different races in that sentence.

They are different things. She may well have meant the latter but what she said implied the former.

It is perfectly consistent to say both these things are true:
  • The holocaust was, in large part, caused by racist motives as the Nazis believed that Jews were a separate, and inferior, race.
  • The holocaust was perpetrated by one group of white people against another group that it is reasonable to also define as white.
They are not opposing views. You seem to be saying that we can't even discuss the former proposition. That it somehow isn't meaningful, or informative.

And now we're also back to the argument that things can't be caused by incorrect beliefs. Plainly they can. If I accept that Jews are not a race it does not logically follow that the holocaust couldn't have had racist motives behind it. Motives are based on what people believe and what they believe might be incorrect.

I don't believe she should have been suspended at all. She was expressing a view and I believe the point she was trying to make was the latter of my two bullets but it was worded in a way that could easily be interpreted to deny the former one. What was needed was just some further talk to make the necessary distinctions. No big deal. I'm sure she is not anti-semitic.

Is the real problem here that people like Whoopi Goldberg have an hour long daily chat show where they talk about things like the Holocaust?

All I'm saying is that if I wanted an informed opinion on the Holocaust I'm not sure Whoopi Goldberg would be my first port of call.

People have opinions. I'm not sure how you prove they are "informed" or not.
It's a chat show. People talk about stuff.

I mean if a person's opinion is to say "I think the rich should rule the earth. Let the poor help themselves".
People may not agree with it and have different opinions. It doesnt have anything to do with being more informed or not.

The problem is if you start taking opinion as factual evidence.

The problem is expressing some opinions is clearly prohibited - even if they're factually correct.

This is dangerous for us all.

The problem is that mainstream networks (FUCK MSM!!!!) will censor people like Goldberg, but then there's other networks that are mainstream where the presenters are literally paid to spread misinformation...

The problem is also the word "opinion". At some point opinions just become factually incorrect statements which potentially leads to the spread of dangerous misinformation.

This is what i've been saying for a long time, and @Scouse has been responding with absolutely not, we need 100% freedom of speech so people can say what they like without repercussions.

I still don't think that's compatible with the world we live in of instant information which can create further issues, but then I also don't know the solution, it's always going to be a mess.

You can say what you want, and you can expect the relevant response, be it "cancelling" I am not a fan of trawling through someone's childhood tweets but if you say something dumb, then expect a response.

Context is also pretty important.

I couldn't really give a shit about the cancel culture to be honest.

The bigger fish to fry is misinformation from people who have pretty sinister motives and can just throw money at a problem to get their opinion to be the 'factual' one.

Watched a film (2016) called "Arrival". Squid-like aliens visit earth. Anyone else seen it ? I enjoyed most of it. The last 40 minutes weren't as enjoyable as the build-up.

Thought it was great. Made her choices hard ones - she was weak and whiny but when you looked at it through the end lens...

Like.
