Lets look at it one last time:

It's a clear statement about what the actual reality is. It's very clear what she's saying there - what the point she's trying to make is (before the music starts up to shut her up).
It's only really about race - it CAN only really be about race - if jews are a race.
And they're not.
Are they?
She is saying it was NOT ABOUT race.
She's not saying they weren't different races in that sentence.
They are different things. She may well have meant the latter but what she said implied the former.
It is perfectly consistent to say both these things are true:
- The holocaust was, in large part, caused by racist motives as the Nazis believed that Jews were a separate, and inferior, race.
- The holocaust was perpetrated by one group of white people against another group that it is reasonable to also define as white.
And now we're also back to the argument that things can't be caused by incorrect beliefs. Plainly they can. If I accept that Jews are not a race it does not logically follow that the holocaust couldn't have had racist motives behind it. Motives are based on what people believe and what they believe might be incorrect.
I don't believe she should have been suspended at all. She was expressing a view and I believe the point she was trying to make was the latter of my two bullets but it was worded in a way that could easily be interpreted to deny the former one. What was needed was just some further talk to make the necessary distinctions. No big deal. I'm sure she is not anti-semitic.
