But they can make another referendum a condition of coalition. Sooner or later they'll win one.

Probably, eventually, but not at $50 a barrel of oil.

The SNP are amusing, they talk about Scotland's oil for 40 years and then the price goes down the pan resulting in them saying "stop talking about oil" :D.

Would any of the 5 who voted undecided in the results above, like to say what would make them decide and who they are undecided between?

Might give us a clue as to what is likely to actually swing this thing in May.

What's funny? I'm genuinely interested in what, for the undecided folk who will ultimately end up deciding this thing, are the important issues.

I ask because undecided, when given the option to vote none, does suggest that they will vote for something and I'm interested in what would be the clincher.

If you want to use this poll as a representation then it shows that it doesn't matter what the undecided vote, Tories will win outright, and I think that's going to be the case.

Clegg at the top of the Shard somehow trying to use it's height to boost his credibilty...the useless wet turd actually came out and said ,I'll cut less than the tories and spend less than labour', that must have taken 2 mins in the pub to work out.
The lib dems are like someone on death row booking a holiday.

In all fairness, the Lib Dems are sticking alot more to their 'liberal' roots than Labour are sticking to their roots.

Liberals should be somewhere between socialism and toryism.

Problem is, why would you vote for a party that says, ah, we won't make you richer, nor will we help the poor as much as those dudes!

They're an old fashioned party which needs to change the definition of 'Liberalism' to modernise, I think the right liberal approach is what we need right now.

Although it's the era for right-wing parties.

I think the liberals are pretty redundant as a national party, the only reason anyone would vote for them is if they have a particularly good local MP.

Most people don't vote over local issues though, they vote based on the party. You could put a wet sponge in as the MP for some parties strongholds and they would still win. We re fortunate to have an excellent local MP (who happens to be a Tory!)

It's the reverse around here, we have Keith Vaz (Chairman of the parliamentary committee) or something.

He's awful, he's very rarely here, but he gets voted in -all- the time.

Seems to happen a lot in old mining communities, stick a red rosette on Jammy Savile and he'll get voted in.

Old mining towns like Rotherham.

Hmm. Maybe a bad example....

I've said this before, but it raised some eyebrows and I got numerous facepalms.

Asians like to vote for Labour (I guess it's similar to the 'family vote' in the respect of that it was Labour that helped your grandad get here in the first place.)

The issue is that Keith Vaz has said some quite racist things in the past about white people, and that's why the far right groups are being quite successful around Leicester, especially in the working class areas who want to vote for Labour, but don't want to be represented by that 'p word'

Oh yes, lots of people blaming Maggie for closing the pits and local industry, yet more were closed in the Labour governments either side of Maggie. Much like the milk stealing thing, when actually most people were happy the warm, curdled, minging, yet free milk had been taken away.

Can open. Worms everywhere.

FWIW I entirely agree, Labour is more popular with that particular demographic. Everyone's fear of pointing that out, ends up with places like Rotherham or Tower Hamlets.

I think it's unfair to suggest to say that Labour voters are purely the victims of demographics, Politics is more or less wholly demographics in general.

The wifes parents are the same, they spit on Maggies name but bought their council house for 18 grand and now it's worth 220.

What gave it away? :)

I just like the idea of small government, free markets and personal responsibility. Not entirely sure that this Tory party subscribes to the same ideals, but they are closer to it than the others.

Yeah, I'm like a middle of the road kind of person to be honest, I see the benefit of both, I love the way you can have your own way in life, but I can also see how damaging that can be if you manage to fall behind in the rat race.

Although I do think it's dangerous to ignore the damage the Tories do and over-exaggerate the damage Labour have caused, I respect that you stick to your guns and don't try to blindly justify your views.

If you could accept damage done by both parties, you'd be the perfect human.

Like me.

As much as Fry would make a brilliant statesman, I think he'd be a poor public speaker, sure he captivates the intelligent people, but I think he'd send the plebs to sleep.

A Boris Johnson - Stephen Fry coalition though.....

The only problem I have with the Tories is their snooping bollocks. They can go fuck themselves with that.

However, I have no time for people who bitch and moan about how they have been dealt a bad hand in life. Its a useless non-excuse for their own bone idleness.

I come from a piss-poor single parent family, I left school with no GCSEs (I think my highest was an F in art or some shit) and I have done something with my life, while not being some superstar entrepreneur I now earn (quite a lot) higher than average wage and studying for a degree in my spare time (Something I should have and could have done long ago) Its the old cliché of having left school on the Friday, started work on the Monday and never been out of work for more than a week since, that was nearly 20 years ago.

In our society there is absolutely nothing stopping people changing their lives, regardless of situation or background. People are just too weak and lazy to do anything.

Arguably though couldn't you be a hypocrite?

Didn't you arguably get to where you were because of the mobility that the Labour party offered?

I've spoken to people before around your ageish who went to University and were like, never was gonna go until I got approached and was paid for me, got a degree now im teaching, now fuck labour because they're cunts.

Hang on, you got into University and arguably where you are now because of the Labour party, now you're slagging them off.

Nope. I got nothing from Labour. I had to work a real wage to support my mum. Her benefits for me stopped when I was 16, she worked full time but got credits for me and my sisters, plus money from my dad (When he could be arsed to send it, nobody official ever bothered chasing it)

I got where I am (Which is far from overly impressive) through turning up to work and being willing to learn.

My point being though, (Assuming you're in IT or something) is that you can't do that now, you can't really graft your way to a well paid job in IT for instance now anymore, because you'll get to a point where the company will say, ah, wait, you haven't got degree X.

I am not in IT ish. I did CIMA through work years ago because I showed willing to learn but found accountancy ate my soul. My official job title is now stock manager that includes purchasing, pricing, product use etc but am attached to the finance department and build and design complex reports using software called Atlas that looked up the databases behind Microsoft Dynamics AX, profit and loss accounts, management accounts, stock ageing etc (The reports in AX are a running joke)

But I also head up our internal development team for AX which isn't particularly IT, we have an outside company who does the technical shit, I just see what the problem is, test it and make sure the IT guys fix it.

I am also doing a temporary project of getting our offices and warehouse renovated, so organising builders and contractors but that will only last 6 months or so.

Its a small company staff wise and I get the freedom to do pretty much whatever is needed and I am trusted to get it done.

I am actually planning on doing GSCEs at some point, possibly after my degree. Just for the sake of it.

So, now your CV? :p

Falling behind in the UK rat race is still a privileged position in the world, it's comparing yourself to others that is the problem, everyone lives beyond their means to keep up with the people 'above' them, taking out monumental mortgages to buy homes they don't need simply for smugness of ownership which is terribly hollow in the long run.
