Funny that you want the offside rule changed to "offside isn't offside".

VAR is not doing it's job. The tech is currently not fit for purpose for marginal offside calls like this, as evidenced by the fact the BALL IS IN FUCKING FLIGHT in the frame that has been used to determine whether the player is offside or not.

I'm still a supporter of VAR because there will always be times where referees just shit the bed, but benefit of the doubt should always be given to the attacker in width of a ball hair calls like this. The player is clearly not gaining and advantage, it's really poor defending, and Leicester have absolutely got away with one.

Also, yes, I think the rule should be changed. I'd probably get rid of offside completely.

In my opinion it improves accuracy but it won't stop mistakes totally because of the human element.

They only really hate it when it doesn't go their way, most other times they say little.

Much more knowledgeable people than me are championing the idea - Marco van Basten on the offside law, why it should be scrapped, and the hockey precedent that might surprise

The irony is - the goal would very likely have stood if VAR hadn't been a thing. And that, IMO, would have been perfectly fine.

But if you bring in a video system to "increase accuracy" you then can't whine like a little bitch about changing the rules because the system you brought in to increase accuracy - which shows an offside - doesn't give you the fucking results you wanted.

It's a fucking shit system. It takes away way more than it gives. And ultimately, it's been introduced for *MONEY* reasons.

So fuck no. I won't shut up. Because it's broken the game for me - and until it's repealed I'll keep on at it. And if it never gets repealed, tough titties. I'm more intransigent than the palestinians.

It's not used to do that anywhere else, and it is popular in every major league (after teething issues) in Europe, outside of England. This has been stated multiple times, by multiple people in this thread, but constantly your constructive argument is "VAR is shit". Once again, VAR is not shit, the implementation of it we have in England is shit.

And I dispute this completely. It's not the case that it's popular with fans, managers or players in other leagues and I'd say the reporting shows this. But in the absence of peer-reviewed science on the subject (because, of course, the leagues won't be paying for something that shows definitively that it's fucking unpopular) and combined with my lack of desire to engage in article-tennis with you, all I'll say is that my day job involves 10 straight hours talking to, largely, europeans. Football is a great common denominator to break the ice. They all say it's shit. All of them. Not a single differing voice.

Of course, YMMV.

VAR is not shit, the implementation of it we have in England is shit.

And I'd argue that there's no possible way of implementing a system like this without it being shit.

But as, over time, people forget what they've lost, they'll eventually come round and suck it's dick I suppose. The older objectors will die at least.

I think we've lost our chance at Europe next season though. At least Europa level upwards.

Our crux has always been relegation fodder though, the other week when Fulham turned on the style and done us.

Home form without fans really has effected us, with the home support the games were always an effort. I know Liverpool suffered from this too, but they've started to improve on that...

I'm slightly thankful this season is almost over now though, we need to cut the deadwood. Though Carlo/Brands have to get this absolutely right now in the transfer market.

I really can't fucking believe Liverpool are odds on for a top four spot. It offends me somehow (and not just because its Liverpool).

It's going down to the wire for most of the European places - 2 to play (it's the first time in forever that there haven't been any games in hand for anyone) and even Leeds in 10th could still get into the Europa League (5th and 6th places) and somebody is going to end up in this stupid Conference thing for finishing in 7th.

Liverpool getting into the CL leaves a very unpleasant taste in the mouth, especially with the decisions that went their way last night (their first goal came from a free kick which should've been a dropped ball and West Brom's "second" was a very questionable "in the line of sight" offside call). It's in their hands but they still have Burnley away and Palace at home, both of whom are capable of making things difficult.

That said - Chelsea losing the CL final and finishing outside the top 4 does have a nice ring to it.
