I still think this is just going to be a massive flop. I'll try it regardless tho as I do with all new mmo's.

Every game that has less subscribers than WoW gets labelled as a "massive flop". As long as its a game that I enjoy and get my money's worth out of ... I really couldn't give two hoots for how many people don't. Labels like "massive flop" are usually wheeled out after release by people who prophecied it's failure before launch.

99% of people only see what they want to.

I didnt mention WoW tho? by massive flop what I mean is shit gameplay, arse pvp mechanics, easy as hell end game pve <---- flop. I played Galaxies which was very fun until Sony starting fucking it up with bent patches, I like star wars through and through but i've not heard good things about this from people playing the beta religiously.

I think it's a joke that this genre is the only one which can have the audacity to have a customer initially pay nearly £40 for 30 days gaming, in some cases not even half of those will be used. After those 30 days you might aswell have thrown your money down the toilet unless you're willing to pay more.

Yeah it should be like all of those single player games that require 20 hrs to play through and have little to no replayability and cost how much again?

You get far more playability out of them though. Some games I have bought and finished the single player in shockingly short periods of time. Sure, I can play it again for free, but that's not what I enjoy about gaming personally. I prefer new experiences, if I enjoy a game, I want it to last for as long as possible.

MMO's get new content fairly often, single player gamers are lucky if they get one expansion before the devs stop supporting it.

DA/ME/Fallout 3 series probably being the only exceptions that breaks the rules...

As others said, you get plenty of gaming time for that price and there's an option for more content. A regular triple A, going for 40-60, manages maybe 10 hours of gameplay.

Yeah im hearing the same bad things over and over again. The only best feature they have all said so far is the voice feature and the ok graphics. Now the bad things...
It is very wow like, 2 friends have stated if u hated wow you'll hate this. Long repetitive combat and the story line can disrupt normal gameplay are other moans about it so far.
If this game was up against another game such as GW2 or another game like Daoc they wouldnt get SW:tor but since the mmo world is quite empty atm they said they will get it for "something to do". I'm still torn in half about getting it or not, one half of me is sayig buy it you love Star Wars and the other half knows it will be the same shit like Wow/Rift/War, seems ok at the start but fails towards the end.

Aye, being like WoW isnt a problem for me because I enjoy WoW still. If its shit it'll go on the shelf with the other 20-25 mmo's i've tried if its good it'll remain installed and i'll dabble back and forth in it for many years to come.

For me WoW is fun in small bits. The leveling, questlines and instances are fun. What is not fun is grinding instances for points and fucking daily quests.

In that way, SWTOR should be quite enjoyable

Accounts created before October 21st have to change their passwords

Sci-fi, News items, Star Wars: The Old Republic

As Star Wars: The Old Republic's launch date draws ever nearer, BioWare has announced that it is stepping up account security for the game. Any players whose accounts were created prior to October 21st will be required to change their passwords in order to conform to the new standards. Those standards, for the curious, dictate that the password must be between eight and 15 characters and must contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number. For the full details, head on over to The Old Republic's official site.

The story will only disrupt "normal" gameplay if you have no interest in the story to begin with.

Speaking of, define "normal gameplay" please. :)

The weekend beta invites this week are only for North America. They are stress testing the east coast servers this weekend I believe...

Hey guys :) A few of us old prydweners will be playing SWTOR as well, we were in WAR under the name Merely Mortal, we're setting up a sith guild called Merely Immortal (See what we did there!?), http://www.swtor.com/guilds/257037/merely-immortal

Would be cool to see some of you ugly lot again, although I'm lead to believe the FH guild is rolling a PvP server? We're opting for PvE as it seems to be a little more balanced between Republic/Empire for the number of guilds currently signed up, plus there should be plenty open world PvP on the go with the ruleset anyway.

We'll probably stay quite a casual guild, most of us are much more excited for GW2, so expect us to have a larger presence in that.

I can confirm it's down as a PvP server guild, though I'm more inclined to go PvE myself.

Ancient Shadows are going to hit the ground running as Sith on a PvE server. We've got confirmation our guild has satisfied the criteria for initial deployment.

Even if I got an invite, the download will be way too long and I have no problem waiting until release.

I'll let you know, but from what an existing tester has told me, once in, it won't just be for the weekend...

Oooh, I was just checking to see if I could see where Aada needed to click, and I've got a second invite for the weekend test. You wait ages and then 2 come along at once :D

I don't see a direct link in the weekend invite, but I had one in the general invite. It was certainly obvious where to get the client once I had logged in.

On the connection here (We're staying at my Ma's for the night so that she can babysit and we can go to the pub) It'll take all night, but that's fine. Other half is taking daughter and Ma shopping tomorrow for the day, so it'll be uninterrupted Starwars loveliness for me :)

Seems everyone got in :)

When we started our Beta Testing Weekends, we told you that each weekend would include more testers than the last. We’re excited to announce that later this month we will be conducting our largest Beta Testing Weekend yet, specifically designed to help us stress test our servers in preparation for the launch of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™.

How can you take part in this coming Beta Test Weekend? Well, for starters we are happy to announce that anyone who has signed up for our Game Testing Program prior to today, November 11th, will get invited! Invites will be sent in the coming weeks.
