And regarding the testing weekends :

Q: When do Beta Weekends start?
A: Friday, September 2nd. (Source: PAX BioWare Panel)

Q: EU as well?
A: Not likely, but as said, large wave of invites going out soon (to Game Testing, not just a weekend). (Source: Stephen Reid via Twitter)

Additional EU Testing information:

Last but not least. We will be adding a large wave of European Game Testers very soon, with Testing Weekends starting later.
Likelihood is yes, EU Testing Weekends on EU servers, but TBD. (Source: Stephen Reid, via Twitter).

Q: How long is a weekend?
A: FYI Testing weekends are just that, weekends, with time for download. (Source: Stephen Reid via Twitter)

Q: Will 'regular' Game testing still be going on/new invites sent?
A: There will be more 'normal' testing invites. (Source: Stephen Reid via Twitter)

Q: Is this "Open Beta" or still random?
A: Still random, need to be registered on the SWTOR site. (Source: PAX Bioware Panel.. I think)

Was talking about the price of the CE being high with a co-worker and we came to the conclusion that even if the price is high, it makes up for it's own worth with being rarer(ish). Also noticed the ingame CE store, which is really cool. I think more special stuffs should cost an arm and a leg.

CArlos i'm a CE nut as well and told myself "Never again shall i go for an early MMO CE!", then i saw the shinies and went *drool* wanna!

I just wish the recolor stone, which pre-orders get, mean i can have a pink blastedr :p

Sounds a lot better than having just warfronts/battlegrounds but still not sure if it's gonna win me over. From what i've seen of it its still a very good pve game but an iffy pvp game. 2 sides never makes a good pvp game, so many have tried it and all failed. It's not the game it's the balance of it. I reckon a good 60-80% of ppl will roll Empire and of all the players on a server i reckon 80%+ will roll a Sith or Jedi of somekind.
I love Star Wars i really do but there is still that something telling me not to buy it.

Just googled the pre order items, and can't seem to find exactly what the benfits of the colour stone are. Obviously it changes your sabre colour..but is this something that normal players cannot do, or will this be colours that normal players cannot get?

Well a few years ago it was correct, the CEs where rare, today they sell loads.

No idea. I'm hoping they are somewhat special items as they don't effect the gameplay.

FAfnir true, but in this case people seem to have an opinion that it's not worth it to get the CE, which makes it rarer by default ;)

same here. origin will never touch my pc. But wont stop me playing the game

Origin is just like Steam but a lot less intrusive.

I use it as a game library for the EA games i have registered.

Steam on the other hand is really really intrusive in the games you have on it.

In fact you could probably compare Steam to StarForce.

Imo, Origin is what Steam should be.

Proper News! I'm sure we all suspected this might be in SWTOR and were hopeful, but here is confirmation.
Open World, Objective-based & Territorial control PVP types *VIDEO*

Also, best PVP gear comes from doing PvP. That's sensible.

Good news I think, but there will be instance pvp as well from what I understand, battlegrounds of some sort from the other videos?

That sometimes takes the spark away from open world pvp, like...wow has open world pvp (lol) but due to the ease of getting into instances and farming honor no one bothers with world pvp other than ganking XPers :(

Only if the pvp gear is totally unusable in pve is it sensible.

But somehow i doubt it, so were gonna get loads of people taking shortcuts by using pvp gear as a trampoline for high end pve instead of getting the proper gear they need.

I remember farming honour in WoW, but I can't remember any open world PvP, unless you mean on specific PvP servers. I hated this as I would get jumped often while doing PvE quests. Needless to say, I gave up on that server very quickly.

In my experience (I'm particularly remembering Warhammer here), really great players tend to enjoy the warzone/battleground PvP where they can't be zerged.

I'm particularly happy to see territorial gameplay, where ownership of certain objectives is the focus. This usually makes for big zergs and lots of happy fun times (like I remember from DAoC and Warhammer).

They introduced Wintergrasp, and they've had various other zones throughout vanilla/TBC/WOTLK with 'pvp objectives' that everyone ignores because it's easier to just sit afk in AV. To be honest I was one of the AFKers in AV to get enough honor gear to start playing properly :p

The aspect of not being zerged is good obviously, but the lack of surprise is the bad part of arena/battlegrounds. The larger battlegrounds this isnt so much of a problem but in arena and the smaller BGs everything becomes so predictable.

imo though instance pvp, in wow at least, becomes a case of accepting a substandard game because it's more convenient, and when that's the case the majority of players will go for it. DAoC didn't have that problem (until lab), they gave players a purpose to go out and fight in the form of keeps/relics, it was the players that adapted it for 8v8 though I think.

My worry for the world pvp in SW is that because instances are available, and you will probably be able to queue from them from your capital cities or something..that players will not bother with the open world pvp, so the developers will ignore it. I've never been a fan of instances, unless it's on a large scale like Planetside, it could work in Altrac Valley too, but that was more of a pve map :(

If this aspect works it could be fun, the advantage daoc had (with no instances) is that it forced all types of players into one environment. Soloers, smallmans, groups and zergs would be fighting in one area, the random aspects of it made it exciting..

What pvp objectives where there in vanilla? The plaguelands where added way later if thoose what you mean. :) Wintergraps was only fun if teams where even, the buff the smaller side got, was pants you still died so bloody fast.

Yea Plaguelands, and I think the zone next to Ungoro Crater has towers too? might not have been there at the start, I didn't play at release. Either way, the things they put in game to promote world pvp, was overshadowed by instances. Since you get more honor for killing a pve mob (tower captains in AV for example) than you do for killing players, people just want to grind that.

Probably due to playing daoc, but I always prefer the randomness of open world fights, the possability to get incoming from any direction and you cannot predict the numbers, in Arena, I know exactly how many I'm up against and even know their classes before the doors have opened due to addons :l

I hope it works out either way, I'm happy for people who prefer to get instances to have their way too, but I wouldn't play if the open world stuff is pointless as it's easier to grind pvp items by farming instances 24/7

SWTOR launch date hinges on fan beta reaction

Speculation about Star Wars The Old Republic's launch date is reaching a fever pitch lately, with fans hanging on every word from BioWare and Electronic Arts staffers and chomping at the bit to experience the title's September beta weekends.

The latest release-related blurb comes courtesy of EA bigwig Frank Gibeau, who told CVG that while EA-BioWare does have a date in mind, fan reaction to the beta will ultimately tell the tale.

"It [the launch date] is definitely tied to the beta test feedback that's ongoing and so far, so good. We feel good about the date that we're heading towards but you're right, you could have a Crazy Ivan show up in the September/October beta test and be like, 'wow, I've got to fix that,'" Gibeau said.[/url]

Cant find this anywhere so i thought id ask in here....

Will this game have free flying pvp space combat just like in the movies?
ie: i want to go to a planet, i get into my ship then out of no where some ememy fighters are on me then a dogfight happens.

Just been watching the movies again and it would be so bloody cool if this game has it. Imo it wont be star wars without the space battles.

The way i understood the spaceflight thingy is that it's just a means of transport. Though later addition of spacecombat might happen.

I'm guessing that means fixed routes like old daoc horse routes or wow gryphon routes. Would be nice if they were controlled, like speeders or something :)

im not bothered about space flight combat. Not something that would interest me too much. Gets to fidly at times, lol. The rail shooter will be a laugh though, will make me feel like im playing a golden oldie.

Still thinking it be rolled out in January unless beta causes hiccups. Maybe they roll it just before xmas but I doubt it. Least I know I wont be missing out on access whilst Im off on holiday to celebrate my first anniversary in a few weeks

When is Blizz con? because personally i think they will launch it around then to overshadow Blizzard incase they have their usual special announcement at their show such as the release date of Diablo 3.
