I think each class gets a different ship. Not 100% sure, but as Sith you'll get something like that. If you like the Jedi ship so much, play Jedi ;)

I didnt say i liked the jedi ship. I said i wanted a corvette, not a stupid transport :)

im abit confused are companions like pets? do you get pets to do all the hard work? i did actually used to enjoy crafting in daoc and various other mmo's it wasnt something i could do all the time but when the mood took me it was an incredibly social aspect of the game for me, i actually made some good friends while sat in TNN crafting.

it used to be a good distraction after reaching top lvl :(

Well, I think they are trying to make them more than pets (would you refer to the other characters in Kotor as pets?), but essentially, yes they are PvE-only pets.

I think the idea is that you don't HAVE to spend time crafting but you CAN.

watched the vid i couldnt get it to play properly earlier :/ it seems like a good system i suspect or rather hope it wont be a lvl up skill system but more reliant on finding blueprints recipes etc so that it actually has a meaning and there is a player based market

Summary : SWTOR has World PvP lakes.

Please check out the SWTOR site for all the stuff (there's a lot) that's happened since the stuff I posted above - new cinematic (or is it two?), a few E3 videos, nice class progression vids, etc etc.

It's been a while since I did anything on this thread, but here is some info:

[..] Open World PvP (more specifically regarding Open World PvP on a PvE server). [..]

he said with absolute certainty that it was more similar to the “lakes” in Warhammer than the zones in WoW. I nearly leapt for joy. I explained to him how much I loved Open-World PvP and how some of the best moments of PvP I had ever experienced were on a core server in WAR, and he said that based upon that I won’t be disappointed. He asked me to clearly specify though that, in TOR, they were PvP lakes, not RvR lakes, because RvR was a specific game system unique to games like DAoC and WAR. With that said, I asked him how much influence those games had in developing TOR’s PvP. He replied with saying how there were many concepts in WAR that had a lot of potential, but the implementation of them was flawed and they were well aware of that. He said TOR had concepts from those games, but much more polished and fine-tuned. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I couldn’t get him to provide further details on what specific systems lay in store for PvP that had not been talked about.

Summary : (this guy says) SWTOR has World PvP lakes.

And weirdly enough, he seems to think pvp lakes were a good idea.

Did he just say WAR = good pvp? :(

If they really are gonna do pvp lakes then i REALLY fucking hope people will be rewarded by participating only instead of having zone wide rewards like in WAR where 99% of the ppl leech in the warcamps....

Did you ever play Warhammer? The lakes were cool! Very similar to DAoC's frontiers.

I did play War and the Lakes were badly implemented, too small and a weak distilate of true PvP zones. In short it was better than nothing, but it still sucked.

I am not going to argue about the size of the lakes, or how well implemented they were (I recognise flaws left, right and centre there), but the mere fact they existed at all was a massive plus over what WoW offered (whether pve WoW has world pvp now, I don't know).

Dedicated rvr zones > rvr lakes any day of the week.

Rvr lakes, while almost functional just doesn't work properly because you take away to much of the pve part of the zones (leaving what pve there is really cramped up), and when there is a major zerg fight in one of the lakes, even the pve'ers will feel the lag. And no server setup can take that away. Even EvE doesn't need any thousands of people in a system fighting to cause lag.

You need to have dedicated rvr zones so those pvp'ing won't fuck it up for those pve'ing, or vice versa as i'm sure there will be outdoor world bosses to kill, and imagine the horror when hundreds of pve'ers wants to kill that at the same time as there is massive zerg fighting going on in the pvp lake...

And they cant make the zones to big either, because that will only make the lag worse.

That said, they might even have a solution to it all, but as Mythic is involved, i kinda expect something really important to be fucked up.

And the funny thing is that with a planetary setup - RvR zones would make a heck of a lot more sense than RvR lakes.
Planets which are contested makes more sense than parts of planets being contested :D

I know the feeling. I'm hoping that Mythic just provides the ideas and Bioware has somebody sensible actually implementing them.
Mythic have had many great ideas and concepts - they've just almost always botched the execution of the ideas :D

Is great fun seeing all the whine at the fact that the pre-order officially started in european time and the US missed out on the CE from origins.com . . . haha. Makes a change

THey know their audience, I guess. THere's lots of Star Wars fans from back in the day. Plus Star Wars stuff is very collectable, plus it might even be worth more (if they don't open it) in a few years time.

Heck - I'm not even that big a fan of Star Wars and even I pre-ordered a CE. Then again - I also got the CE for Warhammer without actually touching the comics and the figure that came along with that.

Well - in fact I preordered two CE for TOR and am now thinking of whether I should cancel the second or not

Gullible people that buys just about anything for any price if it says "collectors Edition" on it....

And there is also nothing in those boxes worth collecting either, so why they are calling it collectors edition is beyond me.

Star Wars is the worlds largest merchandise franchises. No surprise there. Adding collectors edition on the label and putting some novelty items inside gives an illusion of exclusivity- something worth collecting.

Now I've purchased plenty collectors editions myself, since they have added stuff like comics or art books. Its all about what you would like to spend :)

I'll buy the bog standard edition that way if the game turns out to be absolutely shit i won't feel bent over.

I'm hoping its good though i don't care if it looks and plays like WoW as long as it's good and they actually put a worthwhile story in the game that is actually worth reading.

Release is surely sometime this year?

Yea I know what you mean, I bought 2x CE for WAR, bit of a waste really :l

Don't think I'll really bother with the CE unless I know it's a game I'll stick with (beta invite I guess...)

Sure, art books and stuff might make them worth it from an economic value standpoint. But at £130 that art book needs to be something REALLY special...

But art book or not, it still doesn't make them collector items, or in this case collector editions.

Especially not when they release tens of thousands of them, or more likely hundreds of thousands...

At best they could call them "slightly more special edition"....

Because there is still nothing worth collecting in those boxes.

Now if they released 100 numbered boxes with truly unique stuff in them, with say high quality hand painted figures and/or original paper drawings from when the different characters were developed then it's a different story.

Now it's just mass produced junk with pretty pictures.
