Wolfeh: Is the browser/menu system really any good? I ask because I worked with mobiles all last year and the first ms-phone-menu-system was considered a big joke.. just wondered..

heh

to quote myself... first time i ever turned the phone on.... it was slow as hell updating every single menu...

but after a few minutes it was zippy fast in everything... it seems to me the only thing that's slow still is the "homepage" settings screen... that's where you change your background, icon layout etc.... and tbh, anyone who's ever changed a theme in windows on a low range pc knows they have to wait a few secs for everything to change. it's not like it's more than 5 secs.

the layout of the menu's seems good too... and i've got a vague inkling that they might be customisable.

as for the browser - i haven't used it extensively... but apparently it copes with frames... navigating around a high res page is a bit of a bummer, but just cos of the relatively low res screen - hell you'd need a vga or above screen in it to be better...

it's obviously lacking in "features" you've just got stuff like favourites, can refresh the page... tell it whether to load piccies or not... stuff like that...

link navigation is surprisingly good... the 4-way d-pad just jumps from link to link in whichever direction you choose sort of like an aimbot :>

pages actually load rather quickly considering - far faster than my 56k ever loaded them... but i have a feeling this might be down to proxying and some clever gprs compression technique or something i don't know about.

afaik it all done in the lower level. For example most pictures are converted to a phone-only format close to jpeg(wpg?) also the pages are either written in or converted to wml which is like html but very basic. Also all the transport layer stuff was re-written to make it ultra-efficient.

Also thanks for the little mini-review I just have to wait until I finish uni and *fingers crossed* get a decent job until I can afford such things.

well i'd certainly buy one at the moment... when they've got a signal they're fucking great :p

i live in the lea of a massive fuck off hill / mountain - on the coast, and there's no LOS to a transmitter... signal is patchy at best.... tbh if ur in a similar situation i REALLY wouldn't recommend it, bcos you'll get SO frustrated....

i don't regret buying one at all... .i think i'm just pissed off at the moment, cos there was a storm last night and what little signal i usually would have in here was non existant then... and i ended up making a call that would cost <£2 on my orange phone on my t-mobile phone.... which cost the other side of £25.

as i said... frustration

What are the ringtones like?

One of the biggest reasons I want to upgrade my POS Sony Z7e is because the ringtones are utter dirge, and the volume settings go from 1-3 (inaudible) and 4 (completely distorted).

It's the biggest pile of wank ever.

(and stu's fault since I copied him when he bought one)

I've just noticed my avatar now looks even more sinister than it did before. :m00:
