(Yes, this is in the Mobiles forum as well, but noone reads them)

Anyone else waiting for this phone?

I've heard of people complaining about a few things, like T9 not being included but the fact it has C++/JAVA support kinda makes any non-OS software bugs it has of little consequence.

Plus, it plays MP3s, MAME, videos and has a touch screen with handwriting recognition.

All standard PDA fare of course, but I've never needed a PDA before - but being able to play music, movies, games on a device I can also talk to people on pretty much rocks in my book.

The bad part - £530 SIM free and £298 on O2 24-month contract.

Ouch.

I want one, their the best phone with pda bits ive seen but couldnt afford one and contracts suk. Roll on a cross of pag and contract (like 02's bolt ons) so u can get grps and pay monthly for mins and txts without a cc/dc/etc and not be tied down to a contract / connection fee

I was thinking of getting one, but I decided that the screen would just be too small.

I previously had an ipaq 3660 and I found the screen to be borderline small on that one. It broke a couple of months ago so I recently bought the new HP ipaq 5450 - costs a bit more but it was wireless built in and seing as my use is PIM/email/chat/web/ebook/Games rather than phone I would go with that rather than a phone.

I don't often use my mobile phone but if I do replace it I will go with a bluetooth phone that I can use with the ipaq or even the GSM sleeve and a bluetooth headset if I got Geeky :)

On top of the fact the ipaq series (PocketPC OS) has a larger fan base then the Symbian effort, I can expect to get lots of programs and updates from HP for it as well as the next revision of the PPC OS when that is released.

Its really down to personal preference whether the phone is more important than the PDA. If you feel the Phone is more important stick with the P800, avoid the MS effort as its their initial release all MS's initial mobile releases have been poor, plus there is little choice of phones.

Good luck!

I mainly like the idea that you can run C++/JAVA applications on it.

That, to me, makes it far more than a phone or a PDA. It makes it a movie player, MP3 player, Gameboy, etc. I've never had need to have a PDA really, but I use a phone for work and figured if it was possible to have an all-in-one device (toy) then I would go for it.

And this seems to be it.

MAME - what more needs to be said!

That's gorgeous. Perp showed it to me a while back.

It's still only a technology demo though as far as I know, which is a crying shame.

My nokia 3330 could probably sink a battleship if I threw it hard enough, but it'll do me for now.

Just ordered my P800 :D

Quake, Doom, VNC, MSN/IRC/ICQ, PuTTY... and it makes phone calls! :)

Shame the Sony Memory Stick Duo technology is so proprietary and non-standard. Shame on you Sony!

I paid £450 all in for a SIM free UK spec model from a mobile shop in Hong Kong (can you mention the name on the forum or is that classed as advertising?)

Fortunately SonyEricsson warranties are international, so no worries on that front. It'll come with a UK spec charger, instructions, etc.

I was waiting for a UK distributor to get them in, or indeed Orange (they say its going to be released "sometime February") but I couldn't be bothered to wait.

£450? jesus you could have bought a real phone and a gameboy advance for less :p

It also looks hard as fuck to contol when the screen is rotated (to get the correct aspect ratio) as all the buttons are to the right of the screen :/

Sony Erriscon FOR EVAR

From Esato forums
ok guys, let's not be too hard on nokia ok? noks are so much better than at quite a lot of things. for example:

1. they blend much better with mr. t gold chains and tacky jewelry
2. menus and functions are much less extensive and less complicated, just like dr. seuss' books
3. they sell the same phone in several different versions, making you pay more for each one, but making you feel trendier for upgrading to the "newer" technology (7210, 6610, 6100... same crap, different case?)
4. titanium cases can pass you off as a beverly hills wannabe
5. they always come out with a new model just in time for the complete breakdown of your existing phone
6. accessories i bought today won't be compatible with the next nok phone that comes out, giving me another chance to buy new stuff and show other nok owners that they are stuck with obsolete junk, as opposed to my newer junk
7. they take new
sonyericsson_logo.gif
technologies, put them in a glossier package, and look like the real innovators
8. they place more emphasis on marketing than engineering, which is what is much more important anyway
9. they give you a good excuse to have more than one nok since none of them ever comes complete with all the features
10. and finally, most likely won't have to worry about being bluejacked, since most noks don't have
icon_bluetooth.gif
anyway!

Something to do when bored with your SE http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=15976&forum=16#post227542
