I understand your point, maybe me and my friends/acquaintances have just been lucky with our choices of who we worked for. The whole dead mans shoes promotion pyramid is something that I came across working for a UK company 20 years ago. I got as far as I could in that department and then left.

I also understand that the job market now is a different beast from when I started. Most young people move jobs every 2-4 years. I have been to a few seminars on this, as an Engineering company it is an immense issue affecting us and a lot companies in many business sectors. Companies are just expected to suck up the training expenses of individuals leaving and hope they can get people of equal or better experience. Cost of doing business in today's market.

Regards "post room up", I think those days are pretty much gone as well. At the very least on the way up you would be need to do the right courses to break past certain levels (MBA's etc.). It worked with heavy industry back in 60s-90s to some extent but the skills required now to run departments or companies has changed massively over the past 25 years.

Anyway done to death. Back to EU and Brexit :)

None of this will matter in a few years when everything is automated.

This is odd. It has "been announced" that talks will be moved on to the next stage, by our friends in France and Germany (nobody gives the slightest fuck about the rest of the EU. never have, never will)

And suddenly nobody has anything to say?!

Weird.

Then, your cool.

Two very different things :)

Plenty of German companies made their name in the war, VW was basically an arm of the Nazi party, the original beetle was a socialist's wet dream. Hugo Boss made some excellent uniforms for the SS etc.

Fairly meaningless today.

It has taken over from climate change as the number cause of everything that happens anyway but needs something to blame it on.

Unsurprising when there's going to be a bonfire of regulations - like employment protections and environmental regulations.

Nice article that explains how much influence the EU has had on workers rights in the UK there @Job.

Nice that it points out continued rights depend on what happens after brexit. Good that we've been told that we're having a "bonfire" eh?

Have we? I must have missed that one.

Was it in the Independent by any chance?

Think the term "bonfire" was used by the torygraph as part of their campaign to cut red tape. Most of the Tory cabinet back it.

But jump on a word if you like. Meanwhile I'm getting drunk in Phnom Penh having a fabulous time in a place with seemingly zero regulations ;)
