Running Slow (literally)

Hi all, Ive had this problem for 2 months:

Basically Everything in game is fine, absolutely no problems, except that I seem to be running half as fast as everyone else. On my screen it looks like everyone is running at the same speed as me but then jump forward every 2-3 steps but on my flatm8s screen its just me that is jumping backwards. It's not lag as nothing else goes any slower, I cast the same speed as everyone else and zone in and out just as fast.

I have the lastest drivers also
I have a Pentium 4 (3GHz)
I have 1 Gb of Ram
And my graphics card is:
Radeon x300/x550 series 128 Mb

I tried looking on the net for help but as its not an easy to define problem I had no luck.

Thanks for your help

As far as I know, zoning is based on the speed of your computer so it wouldn't point out if you have lag or not. When you stop walking, target a mob and press a key to cast a spell, is there any delay between you hitting the key and your character casting? Because the warping of other players sounds like lag to me, since you get their new position sent from GOA, and with lag there would be frequent delays between receiving these "position-messages" and thus they would look like they're warping around.

So if you're in an RvR group and stuck to leader, will you lose stick over time because you're out of range? Or will you lose it because your screen freezes when there are too many items on you screen (i.e. pc lag). If you're not losing stick then its just normal lag that everyone gets, if you are (keep in mind that RS also makes you run slower) then you have a problem I can't help you with ;)

Im not encumbered. I dont have Rezz Ill. If im in a RvR grp, or any grp I lose stick after a period of time when they run out of stick range, there is no freezing of my computer and the game still runs normally...

When im casting spells there is no time delay between the time I press the button and me casting it.

Its strange that this problem should just come out of the blue like this, I was kinda hoping that once a got new drivers downloaded for my gfx it would fix it but it didn't :(

Again thanks for help much appreciated

I have exactly the same thing when I play on my laptop...but no on my main. Just seem to be running 1/2 a pace slower than everyone else. No lag, no reduction in casting speed...just slightly slower than everyone.

No help I'm afraid...but at least u not alone ;)

Reformat the computer (with a legal OS if you haven't already).

If this doesn't solve the problem, come back here.

Aye

Its not an in-game problem. Methinks its a software issue. What anti-virus are you running ? Get "F-Secure". Its the best AV software for home users on the planet. Have you run Disc Cleanup ? Defrag'd ? Definitely a software issue unrelated to DAOC.

remember reading something about this a while ago, but cant find the link, it could well be your network card or a firewall, sound like the server / client is out of sync by a second or two making you bounce around.

Tried the classic fix of disabling "hardware checksumming" (has another name also on some cards but cant remember what) on the network card properties? That is the usuall cause of disconnects when zoning etc, and even though that isnt your problem maybe its related somehow.

if you have an onboard network card - try putting in a branded PCI nic (like 3com etc), i bet that that is causing your problems

cheers

Well I tried running Disc Clean up, and defragged it - to no avail. I then deleted the game and re--installed which didn't work either. I even downloaded new drivers for my network card but that had no affect either. I ran dxdiag too just to make sure that DirectX is happy and it is.

I can't reformatt my computer because I didn't get and windows xp cd's with it <shakes fist at Dell>

Any chance that it could be a hardware problem and is there any tests to find out?

have a look at the thread i recently made, they said about a removal tool for the gfx drivers.

did you just overwrite your drivers or didd you use the tool they mention?

Hmm strangest thing happened, I went on to cammy this afternoon, after making that last post, and there was those huge lagg spikes. Anyway one relog later and I was back at normal speed, there was alot of bouncing around but I was keeping up with people!!

I have only two explantions:

1. the lag spikes fixed it
2. My flatm8 bought a new keyboard and that fixed it

Im not holding my breath...

Thank you all for your help and time again

do you by any chance have dual video output? (regardless of whether you are using it)

if so check around for a setting about performance and check it is set to single display performance mode. If it is set to dual output performance it will be slower.

I can't provide a screenshot from this pc, but it might actually be a part of the nvidia settings rather than the default windows dual view stuff.
