Ranger Advice

Planning on rolling an Elf Ranger, I was wondering what specs would be viable, and just how hard it is to level an archer character these days...

I want at least 40 in bow, I'd like to cap it tbh, whether it'd gimp me or not...

Another thing: do any stats effect ranger buffs?

or drop bow to 40 put rest in CD...

and elfs are fine if u like them (10 in con at start of course).... with 27 bow you will get a lot more misses and evades and block.... but yes the damage difference isnt that much... What people dont appreciate is that the damage differentials apply to melee weapons as well... Dont neglect any of your rangers skills especially Bow... take it from me.

my spec my spec !

my spec : )

27 stealth + 11 (itamz) + 2 (rr) = 40
34 piercing + 11 (itamz) + 2 (rr) = 47
39 bow + 11 (itamz) + 2 (rr) = 52
48 Pathfinding
10 Celtic Dual +11 (itamz) + 2 (rr) = 23

all bits have the max + 11 on them from stats and i aimed to get stealth and piercing as bow as close to 40 50 50, respectively, as i could then let my rr both cap em off and take em past those marks as it increases as i rvr more.
If i could change this a little id take a point or two out of bow and up piercing to get it closer to 50.
IMO PF is very important for increasing our damage ... after reading a post on VN about dex being the most important factor in bow damage and simply observing my damage variance changing with my dex being higher i decided that i needed as much dex as i could get so took pf to 48 to get the last dex/quick buff. Piercing is missing the fourth part of the anytime but i dont plan being able to hit someone in rvr four times in row that often so =/

but im only 46 so the viability of all this has yet to be proven !

on a purely technical way of looking at it the luri is the best choice over an elph, with 5 pts more in dex and quick to start with.
can put 10 into con dex and quick with him or 5 con 5 strngh etc ... spread em out amongst dex quick and con or maybe strngh basically ... but if i made a ranger again id prob still be an elph cos we rulez ! and a none elven ranger is simply blasphemy !
(tolkien doing donuts in his grave and yep the only ranger we ever see is celty aragorn but if you dont think there weren't elven rangers then you gotta be crazzie ! )

the celt rangers a viable choice as well but he seems to be best as a blade user and give him 10 strngh 10 dex 10 quickness or summit like that ... teh celt ones make better tanks /meleers cos of there higher con so depends on what type of ranger you want ... talk to palan shadow about being a stinky celt ranger and hell guide ye right


but then what do i know im just a crazy furbolg locked up in tnn who's created a imaginery life for himself as an elven ranger whilst i sit in my straw padded cell in the palace =/

Pierce 25
Bow 39
Path Finding 48.

But i have no idea whether it will be any use.

Size counts for a lot too, final level 50 stats wont differ much based on race, but a tall male elph is always gonna stand out and be a targeted a lot easier than a short female luri

Celts are just ambigous in rvr, as long as you arent running around with an instrument its hard for the opponent to workout your class.

Good to see theres a class with a lot of difference of oppinion in how to spec, instead of '48 mana - rest in light' or 'LW 50...' etc.

You mean 32 stealth? because thats how high you can get it with autotrain to level 48.....

exactly... and BELIEVE me you aren't going to be doing much soloing. between assassin zergs and see hidden there's no point trying to be a solo ranger any more

Its sad but true, stealth on the main runs you get run over by a zerg, or FG at the least, stick to the tree line and an assassin will eat you for brekkie.

RVR solo sniper is as good as dead atm, unless you wanna hunt greys in yggdra.

Lo again all...Been peeking in at the boards occasionally even though i'm inactive until the end of the year (roughly) just to keep up.
Solo sniper relying totally on stealth and bow gets toasted or has to jerk off in a corner for 10 mins after a kill nowadays. Either way thats why my template changed from pure stealth sniper to this a few patches back.
My spec as it currently stands (with SC items i've not picked up yet - DOH!)

42+9 Bow
36+8 Stealth
35+8 Pierce
15+7 Celtic Dual
36 Path (Might fiddle it for the next damage add up prehaps - heard mixed reviews about it).

My recommendation would be not to play an elf ranger...I deleted mine at 3x cause I couldnt solo blues.

Remade a celt ranger, and although they arent the most powerful class in the game I get a lot of fun outta playing her

Spec is:
Blades 44 +11items +1 rr
PF 46
Bow 36 +11items +1rr
Stealth 22 +11items +1rr
CD 6

great in a group, I can tank pretty well, but totally usless as a stealther - if I was that bothered I'd have played a shade.

hmm at level 30x i could do yellow cons and the occasional weak to arrow x orange ... now with a few ras to help (no healing ones all passive) i can easily do yellows with only end downtime and oranges with end and health downtime

but then i got lots of money and all the best s*@t so : )

This was before battlegrounds and SC'd stuff mind...and so my kit was crap...maybe I shoulda hung on and waited till respec was brought out... but then again she was truely shite.
