At least it's honest.

If it came to it - which way would you rather go?

If we don't see public prosecutions after that @Tom I don't know what else they can do :(

Nice. Wonder what they got.

If you can get 3 years for tying yourself to a bridge in peaceful protest, you should get double that IMO.

Agree.

On the shooting - I'd ban because of the outsize impact on the ecology of the additional biomass, not the cruelty aspect.

50% of wild bird biomass in the UK is pheasants bread for shooting. That's a lot of strain on ecologies as they're voracious eaters.

Grouse hunting for the burning.

Fox hunting with dogs/badger baiting - I'd shoot the people...

I wonder if any of it would be as popular if we required hunters to use a bow and arrow.

Install BeOS (think that was the name), loved it when it first came out around the time of the dinosaurs.

I tried that for a very short while, I don't think it was that expensive at the time but then not was it very good :p

I use windows because "It just works"

But whoever came up with half the functions and ways of getting at things (System settings are a complete mess) has never used a PC before in their life. Having to right-click, then click again for "show more options" is just stupid.

They have patched back in the option to turn off the idiotic way it hides taskbar icons, as someone that works on several worksheets at a time, it was horrible, still not right though.

Potholes - again.

Over the Xmas break I decided to meet up with a friend for a drink and a bite to eat. Went to pick him up, then made our way into town. The roads were streaming wet, so I was taking it easy. Me mate was asking how the old BMW was getting on, so I was telling him about the last pothole that did some damage 3 months ago, then literally straight after we heard an enormous bang from the left hand side of the car, followed by a horrible rattle from the back of the car.

Turns out we hit this at about 50mph:

Less of a pothole, more of a gaping chasm into the underworld. We pulled over as soon as it was safe to investigate, and whilst we were pulled over someone pulled in behind us, asking if we'd just hit that pothole. Turns out in a layby down the road there were 3 or 4 cars with broken wheels/flat tyres. As we still had 4 round wheels and air in the tyres we carried on to the pub car park at the bottom of the road so we could have a proper look. Me mate noticed a distinct wobble on the nearside rear wheel, so we parked up and got taxis home. Got the car recovered and thanks to the Xmas break only got it back yesterday - it blew through the cup that keeps the shock absorber in place and also damaged the shock - so the council are going to be presented with a decent bill.

The best bit? Due to the amount of cars it damaged and the local press coverage, the council fixed it the next day. Looking at the fix, I'm, sure you'll agree absolutely no corners were cut and they deployed their finest pothole repair people.

Strangely enough it didn't last, and two days later cars were getting damaged again.

I've seen that around here, the council "workmen" turn up, tip a wheelbarrow of steaming asphalt (or whatever it is), go over it once with a whacker and then fuck off.

I've never seen them clear out the existing hole and check for any other loose bits. Sure they are contracted and get paid per job not on quality. What I do not understand is where is the oversight? Potholes are extremely dangerous so who is ensuring the councils are completing the work to a required level?

Oh and those whackers look like they would have trouble getting all the water out of a bath sponge.

I suspect where they went wrong was giving it to their contractors - there was a bloke going door to door with a dag and a bit of string a couple of months ago who would have done a better job.

In fairness I went down that road the other day and they've finally done a proper job. However if you factor in all the claims they have to pay out, I suspect it would have been cheaper to do that initially.

My council's budget has been cut so much since 2010, getting on for £280 million now, that they're close to declaring bankruptcy.
