Maybe things have changed and I was mostly in private schools. but we'd've got the sack, in the state ones too.

In civilized countries it's not legal to sack ill people (who are ill within reason). I think I need something like 100 consecutive days away ill before I get referred to a company doctor. Maybe. Thank heavens for the sweet socialist blanket I lie under at night!

With your immune system you must know the company doctor quite well by now. :)

funnily enough I have just spent two days at home recovering from alien creatures growing in my throat. they tasted amazing. my team is temporarily in a small room and half of us are ill. go figure.

Sounds terribly familiar.

I suppose there's been a lot of inspirational material recently come available :(

in an even more familiar meme, 24.1% of the populous came to vote. the yea camp won with some 65% of those votes. my city has no quorum threshold so the vote is binding. that effectively means about 15% of the peeps have just decided something that affects everyone for years to come. good job! now if only I knew where that dejà-vu feeling was coming from...

it was about what to do with an area of land across from the city, on the other side of the river. it's mostly "nature" and some old and unused small-scale industrial things. a good portion of it is owned by a project developer who already has a plan drawn up with the council to do shit with the area, eg more nature, prettify the place up a bit but also create residential areas....but the plan itself was quite vague. sooooo the council pussies left it to the people instead of manning up and doing their jobs properly. they were basically forced to, because local parties polarized over the issue and went public. the vote was basically: "YES", and follow the really vague plan, "NO", and NOT follow the vague plan and more vagueness ensues, and "OTHER" which was the same as a blank vote, but in this case would mean sweet fuck all unless other would have reached a majority vote (which would have been awesome tbh)

Yeah but you can get sacked on poor performance, which could be due to long term sickness during a school year, but how do you argue that? The school will just say youre shit, bye. The Government (rightly or wrongly) encourages schools to do it too. Sure I'm not saying that shit teachers shouldn't be disciplined for being shit. Problem is that good schools sack shit teachers and end up with all the good ones where as shit schools just end up with the shit teachers.

To sack you for being shit they'd actually have to show evidence that you'd been warned beforehand that you were shit and that they'd asked you to stop being shit.

Sometimes you just have to learn when to say no. If your colleagues don't respect you for that then they're cunts and you should start looking elsewhere for work.

I'm pretty sure it's not legal to sack people for being ill over here either?

Ah, looks like you can but there are a few hoops to jump through first - Can I Dismiss Someone for Being Off Sick? . However popping out in the afternoon for a fairly critical medical reason (eyesight is one area you really don't want to fuck around with) doesn't look to be in line with what's written there, unless teachers have something fairly evil in the employment contract about it?

This is one thing that does make me laugh about the Netherlands though, in many ways it is a socialist country, but in other ways, it's about the most capitalist place I have ever been - witness the number of US companies that have their headquarters there for tax purposes.

tbh that practice shouldn't make you laugh, but heyoo. the NL is a conduit in the grand old game of mitigating the effect of the tax man on one's revenue. I believe the route is wherever -> NL -> IE -> off-shores. I saw a documentary on it once. the amount of money that flows through the country boggles the mind.

Only makes me laugh when it's referred to as a socialist country :)

Being invited at 4.55 on a Thursday to a Xmas do tomorrow evening at a posh hotel. Not really annoying in itself, looking forward to it and its for the department I have my eye on managing next year.

However, trying to buy a suit on a Thursday night, jebus christ. It seems all people sell is midget outfits or suits for people with exceptionally stumpy arms.

No, I did not up until today own a suit, or suit trousers...well I had trousers but they are about 4 inches too big round the waist. Why would I need them? I wear combats and steel toe caps to work.

I have a bit of a cold atm -shut up, haven't had a cold in aaaaages- and when blowing my nose just now I didn't hold my handkerchief properly and got snot all over my face and glasses. I looked like I'd just been through a rather severe bukake session :(

Understand @TdC. But was the "look" down to the snot all over your face or because of your recent severe bukake session?

You can't have it both ways my boy. Or rather, you can...

Can get bukkake noodles or like bukkake rice in Japan. I think it just means like "something poured on top" but I'm not brave enough to order it.
