new player questions !

Having only played classic for a few days with all that gives, no idea whats going on in northland !

Cannot seem to do anything other than get wool off sheep. I read a tutorial - apparently im supposed to be making a crafting table about now & makin my first shelter !

The mods/addon required, like craftbook & all the rest...are they needed to play from the start ? Just downloaded said craftbook & on that page im advised to d/l "world edit 4.0" & must have "bukkit" for it to work ?

i'd like to get to a nice unpopulated area & start doing all the basic mining stuff...but im in the middle of a town staring at an upside down house, gettin pwned by skellies :/

any help appreciated

you dont need to worry about world edit, thats for admin use only to find your own area shouldnt be that hard just run in any direction the map goes on forever (when you come to the end of the map it just generates more map) and yes monsters do indeed come out at night, thats why you need a shelter simply cut down a few trees and make one (or make one out of dirt or stone) upto you which you use really.

You only need the basic minecraft, nothing else downloaded, even mods don't need to DL stuff for world edit as the server handles the rest.

If you venture out of the cities(where all start), you'll find plenty of open space.

Minecraft wiki is a good place to learn how to make absic stuff;

Per example you put chopped down wood(hold down left button to mine) to the crafting slot in inventory to get wooden planks. Then you put frou wooden lanks(in each slot) to get a crafting table.

Then you can make more stuff to mine more stuff and make even mroe stuff
