Hi there, is it possible to overclock a PS2 mouse to over 200Hz? The thing is I have recently moved back to a ball mouse from an M$ Intellimouse Explorer (the one with the eye) because I needed a lower sensitivity in Quake 3, but the Intellieye would not keep up with half-foot movements. Instead, it would send my viewpoint spinning around.
Now the same is happening to my Logitech mouse, except it requires a larger, more rapid movement to cause it. I think this is to do with the sampling rate.
I currently need PS2Rate, but I need more performance. With a maximum rate of 200Hz, I feel limited.
Cheers for reading this.

I assume you've tried adjusting (via the console as i think the range the slider gives is limited) your sensitivty within Q3..

If you want a 200Hz refresh rate, your probably looking at getting a replacment USB mouse.

I want such a low sensitivity (5) so that I can rail a bit better. Useful for Tourney4. :)

BTW, a USB mouse will only give a refresh rate of 125Hz (or can you overclock them further? I have not seen a USBRate type thing yet)

If its for railing......
Why not lower your sens and use mouse accel?
Or if you cant get on with accel just set diff sens for diff weaps.

Sire: I don't really like the feel of mouse acceleration in Q3A. As for the multiple sensitivities, I may make my config do that, but I think that it could be intially confusing.
Death Stoat: I'm not rich. I am but a poor student, with a nice T4. :)
Sory to be so negative.

The sampling rate of usb is "only" 125Hz but it is a much smoother 125hz than you would get with ps2, i also use a low sens (ive been going slightly higher recently, but i was using 6 for ages) and no accelleration. I got myself a logitech mouseman pro usb for £18 from staples a very good buy imo , ive not had any problems with it at all. The mousemat you use might be the problem, i use a 3m precise mousing surface, which you can get from http://www.gameplay.com just do a search on thier shop for 3m.

ive gota second what Eldritch, ust said, the mouse mat is realy important.

But, id avoid the 3m mat, if u can run to it, get an everglide one, ive been using one of there mats for a while now and dont think i could go back .... they a bit expensive, but well worth the extra :)

dont suppose anyone knows of a uk supplier for them, by chance ?

iiyama: I'm surprised there are any universities left that actually permit internet gaming. Bristol, Southampton, and Nottingham have certainly prevented it.. :(

I am at Uni, and the only restriction they place is that we do not connect to US servers between the hours of 6am and 1am, since the colleges/Uni will get charged but the megabyte. Asides, I wouldn't do that at other times 'cos I would get a horrid ping of 100 or so. (c:
Otherwise, I have not heard of any complaints from the University Computing Service. Asides, there is an official Quake/Half-Life server for the Uni, so they can't be that anti-games here. #cam_quake on IRC for the "unofficial" Official Cambridge University Quake society.
I know at least Imperial College London, and Oxford have their own University teams, so it seems that Unis are fairly relaxed about bandwidth usage.

Lucky.

Here at Bristol, internal traffic is unrestricted (so LAN games are no problem, apart from trying to organise them), but any traffic that goes onto the internet[1] is subject to a limitation of 10k/sec per HALL[2], unless it goes through one of the proxies (of which only FTP and WWW ones are available). To add insult, they only implemented the 01:00-06:00 lifting of the restrictions this term. Oh, and BTW, i had to fork out for the access. Not that i want to rattle my sabres to much as the service's technical coordinator of my hall tutor.. :/

[1] includes all academic sites excluding sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk and mirror.ac.uk.
Although internal traffic is unrestricted (, internet

[2] My hall has at least 400+ residents

Needless to say, i decided that i didn't want to spend another 3 years with this sort of restriction. My current plans is to have a ADSL (possibly the £100/month Business version) line installed into my new flat. I've decided to bend over backwards to avoid as many student services as possible.

My advice, get a Logitech Gaming mouse (USB) 1000dpi for about 25 quid and a RatPad (www.hardocp.com), for about 15 odd quid.

This combination is brilliant IMHO and have been using it for a while now.

I have a Boomslang 2000 and to be honest I found it difficult to get on with, the devices shape is really awkward for my hand. It's a great mouse though if you can be arsed to learn to play with it.

The Logitech & RatPad setup I have is a great, inexpensive route to smooth mousing, try it out :)
