I liked swg back about 2 years ago

Then they changed it big style and turned me off

If they make it decent again, i will certainly resub, it was a lovely game but it had so many bugs it was crap

The best thing is that Bioware seems to have aquired the license in Sonys stead, which sounds awesome. Bioware means quality to me, and a starwars mmorpg made by them would be very interesting. The very best thing would ofc be if the Starwars "property" was free from Lucas altogether.

The original post on mmorpg was posted a while ago and its since been proven to be false by SOE :(

Was a bag of shit imo.

Release was horrible 2-3 hour downtimes every day in UK peak times.. sucked ass.

Went back again a year later and finally accepted this game sucks.

Late reply but ;)

Always liked SWG untill they removed the part where Bounty Hunters could hunt Jedi. That was possibly the worst move they ever made. Why on earth. It just made being a Jedi so much easyer, big flood of Jedis for an already over-flodded class. Complete mess.

The CU was a plus imo. Combat before was a bit dull and it livened it up.

I'm still not sure about the NGE as i wasn't playing much at that time.

it wasnt that the NGE was so bad the problem was that SOE had just anounced the trials of obi wan kenobi expansion got everyone to buy it up for basically Free stuff. and also improvment to beast hearder class which meant they could level their pets up to a higher level than a certain cap.

Then 2 weeks before the release of trials of obi wan with the big patch to fix a lot of characters by giving them unique items in the expansion (which most people had pre ordered for free gear and stuff)

They anounced the NGE and asked folk to test it out for them.

99% of players couldnt get off the first level they couldnt test it because they couldnt get on the millenium falcon.

1 week before release they fix the problem and people realised the NGE was horibly horibly broken. People started to ask if it was going live in the state it was in adn SOE said yes. Then suddenly soe anounce they have gotten rid of the classes that benefitted most from trials of obi wan. Beast hearder, ranger etc.

I mean straight "you are changing" the nge basically turned the game into a brand new game with a tone of crap left over from swg. They got rid of a lot of crafter based issues like Degredation of equipment, they made quest based drops far superior to crafters gear.

They got rid of the reason to have a player run city or cantinas. Everyone went off to mustafa (trials of obi wan) for the repeatable quests.

To top it off if you went on the forums to complain they locked your account straight away.

Then basically 90% of the games population numbers were circulating that it was like 250k accounts cancled in a week and demanded reimbursment.

Basically SOE had turned around and told the vocal community aka the forum users that this is what the silent users wanted aka 100 people they asked.

What they didnt expect was that the silent majority didnt like having their characters deleted. They left.

Indeed. SOE had a horrible way of handling the game. Unexplained downtime is the worst, especially when they don't have an ETA. With DAOC i seem to remember being told roughly how long downtime was for etc. - The servers were down for 3 days at one point and the only message anyone recieved was "WE HAVE NO ETA". The compensation for the 3 days down was 2x xp for a week.. Noone wanted that, people wanted extra play time not 2xp - 2xp just screws up the game for a week.

to be honest what soe should have done was leave the servers how they were anounced the NGE as a new server type.

basically made a HUGE server that everyone played on not the 20 or so they had. Forced the gamers over a period of months to adapt to the nge IE when its working properly then anounced in say 3 to 6 months time that the nge is going to be the final game and that the servers would be taken offline and characters copied to the nge servers.

Instead of the hack and slash they did.

Like Fana says, this smacks of a Bioware KotOR MMOG. I suppose there's a lot of legal gumph surrounding the whole thing though. I dread to think what a nightmare it was to get Wizards of teh Coast and Lucasarts to agree to doing KOtoR in the first place.
