Is this what society has come to?

What the absolute fuck? Has the test of a reasonable person completely disappeared from the justice system in the UK? This is a school, weaponising the Malicious Communications Act to suppress dissent. If this is what that law was supposed to do it needs binning, and quick.

So then: Did Vance have a point when he said Europe - particularly the UK, was running scared of it's voters and suppressing free speech? ;)

Considering they are arresting and deporting people taking part in legal protests over in the US they don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about free speech

But yeah UK is fucked, has been for a while, no government has given up powers previous party has brought in so of course it's going to be abused

Two wrongs don't make a right. They've constitutional protections for US Citizens, but if the government is abusing it it can only go so far over there. Over here? I agree, the UK is fucked. We're seeing a consistent legal slide backwards under successive governments...

Then I suggest you stop using a fucking idiot as your cornerstone of your argument.

Unlike the US which oppressing free speech safe in the knowledge that Magats don't know how to read their own constitution?

1st Amendment applies to people under US jurisdiction, not (as Magats like to claim) just US citizens.

Does the EU have a freedom of speech problem? Absolutely. Does JD Vance get to point it out with a straight face? Fuck no.

100% agree with this.

However, what's happening is that everyone's looking at the US and nobody is looking at themselves.

In fact, I assert that the majority of European peoples are using the US as a nice distraction from focussing on their own very serious problems that desparately need fixing.

(I further assert that the majority of the European population don't know what free speech actually means, either in theory or practice, and wouldn't support it if they did. But hey ho. I means our governments are getting a free pass at shithousery and we could easily wake up in a proper authoritarian nightmare).

You can't use American examples yourself then dismiss it when others do....pot.

Not that I believe you have a more valid point now than you did previously, no matter how many times you get on you soapbox.
