Hello, well recently i bought a PCI-E graphics card, thinking it would fit. It never.

So i thought one step down, AGP might fit. It never, what kind of graphics card will mine be? I have a Gforce MX400 in it at the moment, can't play anything its that crap. Is there a programme i can get to find all this information out, or something? :)

Look on your motherboard for its name and then go to company website to see what you available to you.

Could be you dont have an AGP board, you might just have regular pci.

I've figured some of it out. Me being a brainbox trying to put it in the wrong slot.

I got it in, trying to install it but no luck. I try putting the blue wire on the new graphics card and the screen wont come on, try changing it and it wont let me (in bios) :D proper sux

Did u ever consider taking ur computer to the local dealer and ask em what u need and to sell a card to u, then install it for u?

No. since i can usually do it myself, i have done the past few years.

It's working now, up and running. Only problem is that it only starts up at the windows loading screen, which means i cant get into bios with this card, to change my graphics memory to play certain games. Proper sux.

Of course you can get into BIOS. Just press the BIOS key as the pc boots up while the video card BIOS is on screen. Then just keep pressing it on and off over the next 3 - 5 seconds..

If you have trouble identifing an AGP or PCI-e slot on your mobo, I would suggest without any offense intended that you step away from the inside of any computer. The incorrectness of the above statement should be blatently obvious to anyone with even a passing knowledge of PC hardware, as should the identification of agp vs pci-e vs pci.

As recommended above you are best off with the store approach.

I have to agree laddy, if you don't even understand what slot is what on the inside of a PC you need a professional.

You will end up costing yourself a lot more money fucking stuff up than if you got it done properly.

Lies, trial and error. We can only learn from our mistakes, my mistake being putting and AGP and a VGA card in together. At the same time.

Anyway, fixed it. Only problem is my graphics card is a 256mb one, why cant i access how much memory to put in, like 8mb 16mb etc etc in the bios?

This must be painful for some readers but thanks for bearing with me :)

erm.... you don't start learning by trial and error... You start learning by reading books and all...

The trial and error approach will be very very very expensive in the computer business...

download everest and check mb manufactorer (it could be sis's reference board with sis730 chipset but very unlikely :p). this is a software problem (driver) so it might cost a lot if you take it to pc world.

did you remove your old gfx-drivers when you installed your new gfx-card or did you even install new gfx-drivers at all?

you probably have ECS K7SEM with too old bios; check the version of the mb (its near the keyboard connector or in very small print in the corner of the board nearest PCI connector). that board is so old that it just doesnt' work with newer card (FAQ, dont have time to read it now :p)

that list hasn't been updated for ages so if your mb is version 7.x it might work. try to put AGP mode to x2 on bios and see if that helps.
