Guild Wars 2

We will be conducting a Stress Test TODAY from 1:00 PM PDT to 2:00 PM PDT.

We will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed.

Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch.

By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game.

Please note:

* The Stress Test is open to anyone who has pre-PURCHASED Guild Wars 2.
* You will not be able to purchase gems.

Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game!

Enjoy the queues, crashes and lag motherfuckers!
There won't be any queues in the traditional way.
If you try to log on and your server is full you will be put on an "overflow" server where you will be able to continue to play and make progress.
When a spot opens up you get a popup asking if you want to transfer to your server and you continue on like nothing happened.
Only takes a few seconds on a loading screen...

Their patch servers sure are getting a stress test. The download speed is all over the place.

There are no out and out support classes, each class has a self heal, and certain specs have things which can offer little healing. This is how I see it anyway, and was dissapointed in no out and out healer

And that may well be a deal breaker for me, I prefer support classes to out/out melee especially if it is a group based game.

Sounds more and more like Warhammer again and we can all remember what a shambles that turned out to be. What shall be the most group friendly and 'must have' class then?

You can still roll a support toon if that's your thing. Elementalist using Water attunement and appropriate skills/traits is a heavy healer. Or you could go Guardian for it's protection and boon stuff....

Maybe have a look over the per-profession (class) forums on guildwar2gurus.com ?

I'll have a look, assuming it's a group game I'd rather have a highly sought after class rather then being lumped with the useless one. Especially with casual play I don't wish too be waiting around.

No class is actually useless though, they all do different things.

All can heal, all can dps/rupt.

Honestly, pick what you fancy playing, even engineers healing gun is funny and reminds me of tf2.

I think the most sought after class would be Elementalist/Guardian, well, there will be lots of elementalists but good ones will be another matter.

Im tempted to change theif to elementalist on release, tried one in stress test and dps was silly!

yeah thats what Im liking is that in daoc or sw:tor or any mmo, If I chose an infil I couldnt do dragon raids etc as I wasn't a "preferred" class; none of that in gw2 just play the toon you like the way you want.

I completely and utterly disagree, it helps zergs, because there probably won't be a particular target to hit any more and assist, which takes more communication + 'skill' but hey-ho, I guess I'll wait until a couple of days after release before making a decision!

The system is actually quite good. There is as said no dedicated healers in GW2, but all professions can be specced into healing/support(Some better then others, such as Guardian & Water elemenetalist).

Atleast as a Guardian with the right spec, you get lots of healing abilities & shield to use on your teammates. Even one of your elite skills is made up by this :)

A fresh install is about 14.5GB (note older heavily patched installs might have a much larger Gw2.dat due to all the changes creating holes/unused files in it, I saved 2GB with a fresh download). You do know you could just copy the Gw2.dat from your laptop ?

A manual!
massively.com said:
Guild Wars 2 posts online manual, talks economy and art
by Justin Olivetti on Aug 23rd 2012 10:00PMBetas, Fantasy, Video, Economy, Guild Wars 20

One of the unsung heroes of MMOs is the economist -- the guy or gal in charge of making sure that supply and demand doesn't get all wonky. Whether you think about in-game economy or not, its function impacts everyone. For ArenaNet, the man in charge of keeping Guild Wars 2's money ship float is John Smith, and he's created an interesting infographic showing the state of the economy from the beta process.

From the chart, Smith deduces many interesting trends that may or may not play out in the live game. The largest sources of income during the beta were rewards, followed by dynamic events and tasks, while the most frequently traded items were crafting materials. He notes that an abnormal percentage of players gravitated to jewelcrafting as a profession, although he speculates that this was because of the temporary nature of the beta. Smith even compares the rate of gems to gold to Facebook's recent IPO and finds a similar pattern therein.

Keeping up with the information reveals, ArenaNet has released the online manual for Guild Wars 2 that covers everything from "getting started" to "competitive play."

If the economy and manual don't interest you, perhaps art does. MSNBC interviewed Art Director Daniel Dociu about the look of Guild Wars 2, and you can watch it right here:

Hi guys.

Lets talk a bit about "Racial abilities", crafting etc. What race and crafting are you gonna pick and why?

PS. I'm not akagi.

I'll be rolling a Norn Thief, and going with a fairly obvious Leatherworker + Weaponsmith combo. Might end up switching the latter to Huntsman, depending on what weapon sets I settle on for PvE/WvW.

As for Racial Abilities, I'm mostly ignoring them. Given you need to spend Skill Points and put them in Util/Elite slots the same as other Skills a lot of them aren't very attractive given what you'd likely lose to swap one in. Yes, one of the Asura ones might be an exception... and eventually I'll likely unlock Norn Snow Leopard Elite just for the lol factor in WvW ;) .
