Is there any PvP PoV vids?

I'm put off that this looks (graphics etc) like it requires a quite powerful machine.

Also is it a grind fest? Hard learning curve? With Fifa 13/FM 13 coming up I am torn whether to waste money on this.

dont buy it
if you had said "spend money on this" then possibly, if you are already decided that its a waste, then it will be :)

Actually since I'm back to being a student and knowing that I've already 'purchased' Fifa/FM 13, I'm wondering whether GW2 would be worth it.. sensible purchase like.

i get that, but it was the way you worded the question seemed to imply you had already made up your mind :p

I can't stand football games. I. Really. Dont. Get. Why. People. Like. It. But thats another thread...
So if your having trouble deciding if you want to play an MMO thats generated 30 pages of FH content in pre release, entire communities, alliances of Brits, Danes, Scandies and Russians...has some of the most balling WvW in ~10 years, is supported by an excellent company who have taken the time to craft some interesting and unique events...... over some other 'games' you evidently "really" like. Then dont.

He also said hes effectively pre bought them.

I dont think it is a grindfest mostly because there's alot to do it also reminds me of rift pve which i liked, when questing like normal you'll get random events occuring like bosses spawning or invasions etc aswell as dungeons; then you've got the Spvp (bg's) and the WvW (RvR).

I'm mainly buying it since it's a one time purchase so no subs with student life, so its win win for me.

the minimum specs are actually quite low:

you can already check if you can run it here: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/intro.aspx

from their webby:

Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to have it run on a wide range of Windows gaming PCs.
  • Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
  • Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better
  • 2 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
  • 25 GB available HDD space
  • Broadband Internet connection
  • Keyboard and mouse

that, plus no subscription plus the possibility of having to learn a new way to game has me intrigued... dammit why is payday not until next week :)

Buy the game, honestly.

It reminds me too much of DAoC, but a much more thought out, balanced version. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's certainly the best MMO i've had a go of since DAoC.

It's interesting to play, no doubt after 80 levels PVE might get a bit dull, but PVE was actually fun playing through 11/12 levels in beta, it's not just GO HERE DO THIS YEAH HERE'S AN ITEM. It's mixed up to do different challenges, jumping puzzles, world events etc.

& SPVP/WVW is fun, I'm hoping they add some more gametypes to SPVP though, that's my one critisism. Other than that, a good organised group/guild can have alot of fun in WvW/SPVP.

From what i've played in beta it's nothing like DAOC (pve wise for sure).. I played several characters up to level 7, okay not very high I know, but I dont get that DAOC feeling, so please tell me otherwise if im wrong :)

For example. I wonder about the need for a group still in PVE for xp, and when i say grouping, i mean getting together with people you do not necessarily know, decide ooh lets go here and kill these mobs. All i've seen is these heart quests where people might join an open party, do the quest and they bugger off to the next area. I do hope i'm wrong with this, i heard they give extra incentives to group.. but how much xp is gained from grinding (as that was the only way in daoc)

I've played some WvWvW, and again, you could compare it to DAOC, i've seen some nice videos on people forming as a team etc,but didnt WAR online have an open frontier zone? so that could be applied to there also.

Don't get me wrong, i;m really looking forward to the game, but I just don't expect it to be like daoc. I hope they have taken the good ideas from daoc and improved on it, while making the pve aspect enjoyable

The game looks to have been designed to make exp a side-effect. I think it supports side-kicking like City of Heroes (level boost while playing with people of high level in their content) - but I'm not sure because it might be level reduction for the highbee in the case of players with crazy level differences teaming, level boost in PvP for everybody (not sure if you can PvP for exp, but I think you can).

My question for those who know is: if we're all doing weapon switching, does that mean we're all farming (makes me seem like a bit of a hypocrite after the previous paragraph) three or more weapons rather than the usual one?

As far as I was aware if you complete an instance you get a choice of reward at the end, so unlike most MMO's were a boss drops 1 weapon and everyone randoms, you should all be rewarded. However I cant remember where i read this ;p

Now that you mention it, I've seen that somewhere too! That's a great feature and will limit the number of times you HAVE to do an instance (not that you HAVE to do anything ofc).

FAO the people asking if they should buy the game? The only way your gonna know is to stump up the asking price and make that verdict yourself.

Gonna wait a couple of weeks and see the verdict, when the servers open it's always shit anyway. Enjoy the queues, crashes and lag motherfuckers!

GW2 only has sidekicking downwards. And it's independent of grouping. If you're level 40 and in a level 25 area (which can be only one part of a given map/zone) you'll be effectively level 26 (but keep your unlocked weapons and skills).

My question for those who know is: if we're all doing weapon switching, does that mean we're all farming (makes me seem like a bit of a hypocrite after the previous paragraph) three or more weapons rather than the usual one?

My experience was I could mostly just wait for a drop before learning additional weapons. If needs be either craft such yourself (basic ones will be available right at the start of a crafting discipline) or hit up the BLTC (AH).

As for drops from/in dungeons. I ran Ascalonian Catacombs on the initial Story mode and indeed got a level 35 head reward right at the end. Bosses did drop some stuff as well, but nothing special in my case. After Story mode you can do Exploration mode for tokens to buy armour and weapons. That will be a little grindy if you insist on going for a certain look, but otherwise I'd not stress about it as getting newer items as you level doesn't seem to be problematic.

Thanks for those advice. I am no gamer and haven't ever been, FM13 and Fifa13 will be my staple next year as all my buds will be playing them, whilst no one I know has ever played an MMO, thats why they are pre-purchased whilst GW2 is taking some consideration. I don't want to fork out for something that may end up being a bit far off what I want (hence Mabs beta suggestiong was the best idea).

As for the suggestion of just forking out for it. I don't want to waste money on a game I might never play, those I have mentioned I will certainly play beyond the point of repair. Think I will wait for the initial month to pass and all the nerdy types to have hit the end game before deciding, the PvP does look very Warhammer-esque.

That said, how do the support classes fair here? Pure healing or some offense?

There are no out and out support classes, each class has a self heal, and certain specs have things which can offer little healing. This is how I see it anyway, and was dissapointed in no out and out healer

This totally put me off getting this now.

i thought this at first but it's not as bad as it seems

I actually prefer it tbh, no more groups that just rely on 1-2 key players, now all the group has to contribute imo. While there are no pure healers, there are still lots of support roles

I completely and utterly disagree, it helps zergs, because there probably won't be a particular target to hit any more and assist, which takes more communication + 'skill' but hey-ho, I guess I'll wait until a couple of days after release before making a decision!
