Don't you just hate the way copy and paste into this forum tries to be clever? I gave up on trying to properly format links with my own link text....

But yeah, pre-purchase headstart on 25th Aug, they've still not specified a time (including timezone) for either pre-purchase or launch day start.

ah yeah whoops accidental double post  I was tempted to book off the weekend for beta but I'm thinking I only really need to test a build or 2 + some abilities and I can do that in the couple hours I get after work. Going to try and get off the headstart weekend though.

BTW everyone chose there profession etc yet>>? I started off with wanting to be a Elementalist but I couldnt really get along with it.

I will be a ranger with leatherworking and jewelry, as for race either human OR Asura, will probably longbow for ranged dps in WvW / PvE...and then use a 2h Sword in arena's as its a bit more close quarters.

EDIT: Also Corran or cHodAX I need to know your char names for release if you'll have me in RoO again :p I couldnt find anyone during the 1 BWE I got to play, as I was to busy in game for the stress test to look again hehe,

I've been mostly playing my Thief in BWE1/2 and stress tests, he's 35 now. Got an Elementalist up a few levels too and it seemed fun, but I'm not sure I like the 'school' switching mechanic and what it means for optimal play.

Next BWE I'll likely give some other professions a try out to level 10 or so, maybe some WvW/PvP as well. PvP-wise in WoW I always preferred a ranged class so should see what something like Ranger is like in GW2 I guess.

So I won't know what I'll play on release until after BWE3, if then.

Yeah my only problem was I was a ranged glass cannon spec on my ranger, and quite a few arena's (don't know the names) had things like a clocktower etc to fight in; and I had traits to increase range + more dmg at further range. It's not a problem as the 2hand weap spec is quite nice with a charge abitlity and also a Stun from the side or rear. What I also like about the ranger is the pets you can charm I know there's guides online, but Ive left those alone and managed to find my first NEW pet at lvl9 or so.

And yeah the Elementalist I just couldnt get along with it in Arena's was fine in pve when mobs just stood in the circle and took dmg :p

So... 28th August.

I've pre-ordered today on Amazon. Not wildly worried about early access, I'll quite cheerfully pay £15 less as I don't really care much about being in the mad rush of the first few days.

So what's the performance llike on this then? looking at the system requirements it looks a bit optimistic, could you guys post your specs and fps during the WvWvW fights?

They've said that the game isn't fully optimized, but I run it at 50-60 FPS with vsync on most of the time in WvW. There are times, like in huge siege fights, that the FPS takes a hit, but it's not been so low as to be more than slightly annoying (30+ FPS).

Specs:
i5 2500k @ 4 ghz
GTX 680
8 GB G.Skill RAM

Would probably get higher FPS if I OC'ed the CPU further, as the game seems to be CPU bound in many places.

I've been playing on an i5-760 @2.88Ghz, with 12GB DDR3 RAM @1.6GHz and a GTX 260 896MB. It's mostly been OK, ~30FPS according to in-game -perf display. A bit laggy, but manageable in WvW. The dungeon they opened up for BWE2, Ascalon Catacombs had some optimisation problems though as even when just running around one bit it felt like my FPS had dropped to sub-10.

I have been pondering a 'value for money' upgrade to a GTX 560 Ti (the 448 core version).

Is the game designed with multiple cores in mind?

I believe it is, yes. One thing to not get caught out by is that the game will auto-set itself to Idle priority if not in the foreground, but does indeed run at Normal priority when it is in the foreground. I'm pretty sure when I was checking this I saw multiple cores (i5-760 has 4, no hyper-threading) with load.

Just gotta hope my Phenom 9650/4GB/GTX 550ti will be able to handle it until i can afford my new PC in November.

I'm playing on the gaming equivalent of a cardboard box with some copper wiring poking out and my performance in the last stress test was pretty damn good compared to earlier tests. Previously just trying to get into the Mists would cause my game to crash as there were too many people standing around the pvp vendors, now I can log in without any problems.

Done a lot of sPvP with the guardian and it's pretty awesome, I made a crit based build with some shout buffs (10/30/30 specced, thinking of going 0/30/30/5/5 for increased buffing) and went around demolishing most people - though the marsh drake/greatsword ranger owned me, but that's because the marsh drake is currently bugged to do a bajillion times its normal damage. I'm quite impressed with sPvP so far, it's quite a lot of fun AND I get to trebuchet people to death. Will be interesting to see the next two maps, I believe one has a guild lord that will instantly win you the game if you kill the enemy lord, I'm not 100% on the other one though.

We got any further with organising an Ex-DAOC / Feddyshouse guild on the US servers?

Me, Carrot Head, Demrog, and a couple of others from Prydwen days looking for a decent WvWvW guild come go-live.

US-servers? Whats wrong with the EU servers?

Atleast Ancient Reign got quite a few FH members, and already in a strong alliance(Far Shiverpeaks). But that is EU tho, if it is not interested.

Far Shiverpeaks seems to be the place to go for a somewhat organized realm. Hopefully can get on this time, all the BWEs have left FSP pop locked :(

We have made www.farshiverpeaks.com which will be the community site for far shiverpeaks(duh). Its also the host site for our alliance "The Northern Alliance" which now consists of 7 guilds and 3 trial guilds(Mostly scandinavian, but the norwegian, swedish and danish community site guilds is also part of this).

We have meeting every 2 weeks to mostly discuss WvW related subjects, and it seems to have worked out great so far :)

O wow. SMF. I've not see that in ages.

Hopefully during the upcoming bwe we can get ourselves (theres about 6 of us) into FSP and have a roll around. So far the server we seem to be stuck on keeps getting put up against a pair of german servers who have some mental populations.

Not going to be around for the beta test weekends but will be around for launch. Chatting to a few peeps about where to land when the game goes live. Some old names opening up their coffin lids and clambering out.

Last time I read your website it gave the impression it was only to old pvpers from DAoC. Although I played I dont think I was ever considered a pvp'er....except maybe by the grass at AMG :(

We aren't a big group, there are only 3 of us for definite. But we like taking towers with 3 people, keeps it interesting!

We will have people dedicated to the sPvP in the guild that will keep doing tournaments(Also renting our own server). But one of our main focus is and will be WvW with the alliance, and also try doing small man runs(like DAoC days) in the WvW frontiers.

We have a very close relationship with the alliance, where we got a 1000 slot mumble server that all guilds co-share with their own subchannel. So doing pvE or just gathering up people from guild/alliance to do whatever you want is quite easy. :)

The one that has the responsibility of the sPvP section in our guild is Carlos bananos from FH.
If there is someone else that wants to join up on this, we hope to gather 5-8 of the guilds best PvPers into their own division to do the tournaments.

Sorry renting your own server?

Yeah I've read up a bit on your site. We'd happily join you guys but I thought you were looking for people with "history" rather than new bloods :p

And yes, additional hosting/vb licences, mumble/ts licenses (I donno how i got a TS license but I appear to have one..wtf?) available from me too ;) Mostly tho i offer these up to public use. For example, community mumble servers. Something I was intending to do wherever we ended up, but was still pondering how to arrange it channel wise. Still am on the side :)

Well, we do have some of our old members(Mostly DAoC, and some Rift). But not everyone will play GW2, and seeing that we will have two main focuses(sPvP and WvW) we need people to fill the role. And most of us agree that the best way for that is to recruite some of the community members from FH, this because of their old experience in DAoC :)

Just tell your friends to sign up and make a application thread, this way the rest of the guys will know who you are from the start. :)

co-hosting by the original alliance guilds. the 1000 slot mumble server is hosted on my own dedicated server(where the FH MC server is located and the guild webpage). The main administrator on that community site is Fnix tho, if you got some questions for him :)
