Really enjoyed the little I got to play of the beta (was away most of the weekend).

I'm curious how the healing system will work out though, it felt a bit weird during those huge sieges in WvW. I'm sure that it would feel considerably different when running with an organized group though, utilizing Guardian shields more efficiently etc.

Overall I thought it was decent. Mesmer was proper dreadful in PvP, doing only around 1/4 of the damage of other classes from what I could see as well dying in seconds - this is the upscaled Lvl80 PvP mind, not the WvWvW, so possibly a balance issue with the upscaling that will be addressed. Necromancer was better and had a higher degree of cool factor with some of its signature abilities.

I don't think its worth £48 though.

Roo, I thought similar stuff about the mesmer too, but I didn't really get my head around the shatter mechanic until the last few hours when I switched to staff. 3 clones -> shatter - summon phantasm or two, use sword a bit, shatter when off cooldown.
With 3 clones you can chunk atleast 1/3 of someones health. Granted not perfect, but not utterly gimped!

Yea the Mesmer is tricky, but when you pick up a good shatter or confusion build and play it right they're quite devastating.

Enjoyed it a lot. shaping up to be a different and fun game... bout time the Ganre had some fresh ideas injected into it.

RE Structured PvP - Standard conquest snenario pvp, fairly well balanced, well designed maps... on the whole i can see a faair bit of entertainment to be had with a regular pvp group and comms.

RE WvWvW - Much as i expected from a mass beta test... a zerg fest with see-saw fights between a spawn and the nearest keep. However... go alone, or grab a few buddies... and stay away from the "zerg" and there is much entertainment to be had. People undervalue just how IMPORTANT disrupting supply and the enemy back line is... the supply camps can be taken by a small group easily, and the towers can be handled by a competent group or two. Again, great fun to be had with a small regular group on comms, preferably as part of a larger force communicating strategy across the maps..

RE the Damage / Healing mechanics - If your having people just run away and heal in a 1v1, you need to evaluate your tactics, and reserve prevention mechanisms (daze / cripple / chill etc) for the correct moment. Some classes are especially suited to escape... some arnt... on the whole i didnt realy have a problem with it.

RE Mesmers - Great class... tons of options... i eventually found myself using sword / pistol mostly... with either greatsword or staff as back up... still not decided on that yet. I had no problemes in 1v1 or even a couple of 1v2s... again... smart managment of your cooldowns and clones/phantasms is key.

Interesting. I've always treated 'Explode your pets' as emergency moves, not something to use as an ongoing DPS mechanic and part of your rotation.

I did the same at first, but after getting advice som Carlos fighting another Mesmer who used the clones as a DPS mechanic I increased my dmg with maybe 50%.

Yea, you can spec traits that mean you can pump out a constant flow of clones (2 on a cooldown and one every time you dodge, as well as Decoy), with the massive damage from Mind Wrack you can dish out around 12k dmg when all three clones explode.

It's a very complex class, but very rewarding if played right :)

Found it to be shit in WvW though, as it's frustrating trying to keep track of your clones through the large battles with lots of people and spell effects everywhere :p

Hehe, after viewing videos and streams of the beta test, GW2 is a bit tad heavy on the spell effects

Yea it's pretty bad in keep fights, it's fine in the battlegrounds though as it's only 8v8

Conversly... specing heavily in clone / phantasm traits can vastly improve both the survivability and damage output of the illusions themselves. Combine this with punishment traits for when people actually target the illusions... and you have a build that pumps out sustained big damage numbers from your illusiory army, and if the enemy decides to get rid of them (not hard TBH) they are further punished, and you can then summon some more.

It is a very complex class.. there are lots of options... some of which are not immediatly obvious.

You can choose either to go shatter heavy, for both DPS, and Conditions.
Or choose to invest in llusion traits, in order to use their improved damage output to enhance your own.
Or even treat them as a resource to fuel your other abilities / mechanics (The heal on Shatter trait is. currently.. GODLY... it will almost certainly be changed)

Oh, and i agree... its definatly NOT a "zerg" class. It works far better in a small group or force, that is avoiding the zergs and instead dealing with smaller forces, towers, and camps.

That said... Portal is AWESOME for getting allies into a sieged Keep :p

Yeah, I was saving points to be able to do that in the end, or try it.

1; Create you're first gateway right outside

2: Use you're single teleport spell to get on top of the wall

and

3: Create you're 2nd gateway and let you're allies come innside.

Never got to try this as I didnt have enough skillpoints(wasted them at the start to do so).

overall i found it very enjoyable , played a few classes ranger warrior engineer and settled on elementalist , this was an enjoyable class with lots of toys to it , didnt really go WvWvW untill last night , we got a guild grp together and went out to play , was very enjoyable until we became too dominant then it got a little boring , we took all buildings on the map except the portal keeps ofc , but the pwning thing should get sorted with the ranking system so that should solve that problem , found some good backdoors into the keeps , underwater drains ect and once in the fun proper started as all daoc people will know :) , i also like how the siege engines work , supplies to build them and the fact that they actually make a difference , but not too much , warhammer could have learned a lot from these people about seiges , i was also very lucky in that i had very little down time , about 2 hrs yesterday was all , so all in all a most enjoyable experiance for me , you are right about that music though Roo lol :twak:

i really think you should be more mature about this hammer and stick to the points about the pluses and minuses about the game , not whether you can make the entire freddy's community believe that i listened to the starting music , when its obvious that i didnt , however i did get an sms from you today saying that YOU had in fact uploaded it to your ipod Tsh Tsh :twak:

Mmm kicking Fefner about almost seems to make this worth playing this game for just by itself. Where's your fishing buddy these days? :D

SWTOR while the content is fun is worth it. I'm not sure that GW2 is worth it. Those two sentences are not related, neither affects the other. That said I've cancelled my SWTOR sub after the mammoth buttfucking that Bioware gave my main last patch.

The cheapest I see it atm is £40, which is the same price as what SWTOR was at release..... while that's good I'm still not sure about this game..

I just watched a video of the WvW and everyone just smashed their buttons as much as they could and zerged everyone down? is that the game then?

Pretty much. Baffled by the positive response it has gotten in this thread tbh.

This is not how I experienced the WvW. If you compare it to a DAoC zerg then it is pretty much the same. Sames goes for encountering small group, tactics needs to be involved and the dynamic fighting requires even more skills by the player itself! Smashing all you're buttong without thinking it over might get you killed. Play smart or you wont survive
