I had a lot of fun in GW1, tagging along with VGN peeps and playing TA in a set group for a while. I'm obviously going to try GW2 but I'd be surprised if it holds my attention for long. There's no monks in GW2 and everything I've seen so far makes me think the the PvP in GW2 will disappoint. GW1 had a mix of great PvP (GvG, TA, Halls to a lesser extent, and I guess RA) and some pretty meh PvP (Alliance battles, etc...) and it seems all the sucky types are the ones they're promoting in GW2 :(

I'd love to be wrong but a lot of recent MMOs have let me down: WoW, AoC, WAR, Aion, Rift... I guess there's no money to be made from PvP oriented games.

We'll see when it's £20 in a few months :p yes no subs is nice but I'd rather pay subs and have a game which is constantly updated / maintained well (the reason subs exist)

Well, i could name quite a few F2P MMO's that are far and beyond better supported.

Problem is that subscriptions is starting to be outdated because they don't generate nearly as much cash compared to F2P games. So most times F2P games are better maintained and have more and bigger updates then subscription based games.

That said, i prefer paying subs over playing a F2P game with cash shops to. Because at the end of the day, if you play a F2P game as your main MMO then subscriptions are cheaper.

Guild Wars 2 announces first beta weekend for April 27th to 29th
by Matt Daniel on Apr 18th 2012 2:15PMBetas, Fantasy, Events, in-game, News items, Guild Wars 20

Guild Wars 2 fans, prepare to rejoice; the time has nearly come to throw open the floodgates. ArenaNet has taken to Twitter to announce that the first public Guild Wars 2 beta weekend event will be taking place the weekend of April 27th. Other details are scant at the moment, but the team promises that a blog post with further information will be going up tomorrow.

If you want to get in on the fun but don't have a beta key, don't fret. The tweet also reminds players that prepurchasing the game will grant instant beta event access for this weekend and others to follow. So that's it, folks: You've got a little over a week to call in sick, stock up on the most dangerously caffeinated beverages you can find, and kiss your sleep schedule goodbye. We'll see you in Tyria.

Wish they would give a release date, I am on holiday from 26th June - 10th July and just know it will become between those dates, so pre order will be pointless :)

For this weekends first GW2 BWE former DAoC players are going to make "Sorrow's Furnace" server their home world to help stress test the snot out of the WvW maps. You will get one free home world server transfer over the course of the beta weekend event so use it wisely and expect all day Sunday to be massive WvW mayhem. :D Hope to see a lot of familiar names out there. Cheers,

Yes, we will! WvW is gonna be so much fun. I really do hope it exceeds my expectations, and far beyond.

If it was coming out late June/early July they would have announced it a few months back... I'd say mid August at the earliest at the moment..

Thanks for the info =)

Was thinking about joining up on the Underworld server with the guild then, seeing that we will use the european ones!

Also looking at Far Shiverpeaks and Blacktide, see pm.

Yeah saw, just that. The official site of norway, sweden and denmark will also be on Far Shiverpeaks. That is guilds counting hundreds of members :p

But let's wait and see a little bit.

The client worked perfectly for me. Just download an exe file, create a folder for your game data, copy the exe to this location and run it. The game will not install tho it will download the required .dat files. Client feels light and fresh. The login screen pops up within 2 secs on my 4 year old computer with outdated specs.

Checked FH to see which server the old DAoC community is going for. EU players aim for Underworld then I presume? Edit: Just read above. Far Shiverpeaks will probably be my choice if the majority of scandinavia goes there.

not 100% sure yet, as Carlos is my community chief here :p (a lot more updated then I am on those topics). So we will just have to wait and see, maybe some better answers tomorrow!

Yeah I'll keep an eye out. Looking for some good WvWvW action in this BETA and I know we'll see that with lots of DAoC players on it ;)

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Hope to gather more old DAoC members to our guild during the beta as well.

Seems like the US DAoC players will be on "Sorrow's Furnace". But we should probably stick to a european server, not even sure if we can get onto a US server.

IMO it seems like "Far Shiverpeaks" is the best choice for us to avoid none-speaking English guilds!

Thanks for the info. It's a slow download :(

So is it gonna be Far Shiverpeaks or Underworld?

Really need to figure out so we were not all split up, i prefer to be on same server with old heads from daoc.

Choosing and Transferring Worlds in Guild Wars 2By Martin Kerstein April 24th, 2012more on: betadev updateserver

world-transfer-header.jpg

For our first Beta Weekend Event (April 27-29), home-world selection and world transfers will work just as they will when Guild Wars 2 launches.

When you log in to the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to pick any available server, or home world. If you choose to select a home world that is in a different region from where you purchased your game, you will be logged out for a short period of time while your account is moved to your new region. Once you have selected a home world, all the characters you create will play on this world and will represent it in our world-versus-world (WvW) format.

While you can change your home world, there is a limit of one world transfer every seven days per account and a charge of 1,800 gems for each transfer. A world transfer moves all of your existing characters to your new home world. Any subsequent characters you create will also play in this new home world.

When Guild Wars 2 launches, you will also have the option to play with your friends on another world with our free “guesting” feature. With guesting, your characters can play on any world where you have friends—with certain restrictions. For instance, you will not be able to participate in WvW while guesting.

While home-world selection and world transfers will be available during our Beta Weekend Event, guesting is not currently available. All players will be able to receive 2,000 gems free for the Beta Weekend Event, so you will be able to purchase a world transfer if you find yourself in need of one. Since the limit is one transfer every seven days, you’ll only be able to change worlds once during the Beta Weekend Event.

We strongly recommend that you plan ahead and choose your server before the event begins on April 27.

Here is a list of worlds that will be available during the Beta Weekend Event:

Our guild are leaning toward Far Shiverpeaks. Lots of scandi guilds heading there, who'll have a good quota of DAoCers. Would be good to see all of you guys on the same server too!
