For those criticising FM2012 being on Steam, go look at TPB and all the people moaning about the lack of a cracked version. Steam doing it's job for us currently. Not cracked on day 1, or even the weekend of release. May not continue but the longer it does the better. Looks like you need to go and buy it after all, megathief.

How do I play FM2012 offline though? It won't let me.. talk about a shit train journey

All Steam games get cracked within a few weeks... a lot of people hate Steam and instead of buying your game, they will go pirate it, good decision, not...

It will hurt the sales a bit, especially with all these issues people are having with Steam etc..

apparently you just select to use steam in "offline" mode... but heard alot of people have been having issues with FM not working in offline mode. Kinda funny really. A game that generally gets played whilst people on the move cant be played in that manner.

and though steam may not hurt the sales too much this year, next year could be another matter if problems persists... not that it worth buying before it had a couple of patches anyways :p

This isn't really my area but you only need to activate it once online and then play in offline mode or straight from the shortcut/.exe. There are no problems I know of playing it in offline mode, so pop along to our forums and have a look at the FAQs which may answer you. Failing that, our customer support and user base are very helpful there if you do have an issue.

A lot of people are frustrated by the wait and are giving up and going to buy it. They can't go and pirate it if there isn't a version so it's either bought or not bought. Hopefully more will choose to buy it.

Welp going offline causes and errors and make Steam crash. Every. Fucking. Time.

Geez I've legitimately bought FM since 2005 yet can't play this bastard version without the net being up?!

I think Steam is the (least im)perfect balance between DRM (protection for publishers) and ease of use/access (protection for customers). I don't agree with some of their policies regarding account-banning and they need to spend less time swimming in their Olympic-sized pools full of $100 bills and more time fixing the bugs in the Steam client.

It's certainly better for the customer than anything else on the market, I'm looking at you Sony, EA and (most especially of all) fucking Ubisoft.

It's the best protection yeah, but the game will be cracked and pirated anyway.. I would like to see the figures on how many people returned FM after they had trouble with Steam ..and how many people didn't buy it because they hate Steam.. and those people instead waited for a cracked version.

problem is, most companies wont accept it being returned... the moment that it is opened it is no use, when the code is put into steam it makes the product used and unrecoverable afteral... and returning the disc to a shop will not remove it from the original prchasers account.

could way to make sure unhappy people are screwed :p

edit:
And may have took a little time (mainly as they were waiting on game being patched apparently), but seems the crack for the game is available now. So megadave be getting his steamfree version now

How many of you actually have FM2012 and it's running fine?

I've been casting my eyes over the SI forums and they seem to be having problems but reading forums isn't an acurate reflection of the real world (as people rarely post that their game is fine and it's all hunky dory).

I'm trying to over come my hatred of Steam as I think I've taken my FM11 game as far as I can without falling asleep.

fine for me on steam, never had a problem with the game running or anything. I could take my entire first team out into a forest and shoot them all before pushing the corpses into an open pit (I wouldnt ask them to throw themselves in, they'd miss ) but that is another matter................

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-12-06-football-manager-2012-steam-requirement-a-success

The upshot of Steam helping Football Manager 2012 be pirated less and therefore sold more is money; money that will be reinvested in the series.

"The beauty of it all is, thanks to having a nice publisher and parent company in Sega, we kind of agreed beforehand that if we got extra sales we'd be able to invest more into the studio for both existing and future products," Jacobson revealed.

"And we've worked out now that we're going to be looking to take on between six and 10 people to join the squad here at SI."

This is why.

Erm.. sorry, that doesn't mean it was a success, how much did you guys pay them to write that article by the way?

A lot of people I know, didn't buy the game simply because they hate Steam with a passion.. the amount of people who went out and bought the game in the first 10 days just because it hadn't been cracked wouldn't have been high at all..

People pirate games for a reason.. and if it's a singleplayer game and I buy it I normally pirate it as well, so the DRM is gone.

Selling more copies and investing that money directly into increasing staff levels? How is that not a success?

Also you claim of payment is fucking hilarious as EG didn't even review FM12, so stop talking out your uninformed arse.

You are thinking short term, this is terrible... the amount of people who hate Steam is quite large, they won't buy the game at all.

Or people with no money who want to play games which are stupidly priced at £40 on release..

Quite a lot of people pirate games to trial them too, which is understandable.

Company expansion is far from a short-term thing, but well done on missing the point spectacularly. And FM can often be bought for £25 on/near release online. There's very few games out there that offer as much value in terms of gameplay hours for price.

You're massively overplaying the Steam thing too. Are you aware that someone set up a petition against our use of Steam? It was signed by about a dozen people, no-one gave a shit about it apart from serial whingers. As I've said before, I personally don't like Steam and would prefer another option for activation but to slate the game so much for using Steam is laughable. Where are all the baying mobs anger at Deus Ex: HR for using Steam? Or any of the other games?

And as stated before, sales have been up because of Steam, not down. So the point you are making has already been proved a falsehood.

Yes, the sales have been up in SHORT TERM.. it took what? 10 days for it to get cracked.. not everyone buys / looks in to buying the game in the first 2 weeks.. in fact, with FM, quite a lot of people actually wait until feb/march to actually play due to jan transfer window..

Sadly, games are purchasable for more than the first 10 days.

I'd love to know how many people you think were like "OMFG, THE GAME HAS BEEN OUT FOR 4 DAYS NOW AND STILL NO CRACK IS AVAILABLE, BRB, BUYING IT!"..

That number will be quite low.

If it was only going to be a short term increase, why would we be hiring more staff? If it was like you say and long term was going to hinder us then that wouldn't make any sense... not quite sure why you continue to push your agenda when all the available facts disprove your nonsense. And yes, we know lots of people wait until the new year to buy the game.

Also, there's a new update just available to the game - happy Christmas FMers!

SI don't really make the right decisions do they? look at the entire FML saga..

I loved that game.. even after the ton of changes which changed the entire game every week..

If we didn't make the right decisions how on Earth have we been going for so long? How have we lasted when CM and BGS have failed? How have we been the #1 football management game for a couple of decades? Sure, the FML project didn't go brilliantly but you've now randomly switched your argument from Steam for FM to a completely different game in order to try and keep the argument going... clutching a bit? :D

Well, not really... CM/BGS would have trampled all over SI if they kept the code base instead of SI when the split happened.

I'm just saying..... the difference in the number of sales lost because of steam only vs the number of people who bought it in the first 10 days just cause it wasn't pirated is very low...

Sure, it's fine at the moment, but in a year, look at the figures.. they won't look so rosey.
